Hi there fellow Toy Voyagers!

Recently some of my owners toyvoyagers have come home from their travels to stay for a while before heading back off around the world.

They told me all about their adventures and I'm so excited to start my own!

My owner got my ID set up and said that I had to be weighed and measured.

It's very cold over here, so I decided to use the tape measure as a scarf!

http://i1329.photobucket.com/albums/w553/battery_star1/c5de7de6e2c19aedc920247973255fdb_zps1377ac62.jpg

I went and sat in front of the fire so that my owner could have her tape measure back.

Dear mum,
today we had a walk in the historical centre of Bologna, so I could see some very famous monuments.
This is the fountain of the Neptune ("Fontana del Nettuno"). It is a monumental fountain located in the eponymous square, Piazza del Nettuno, next to Piazza Maggiore. The fountain was designed by the Palermitan architect Tommaso Laureti, but the bronze figure of Neptune was made by Giambologna and completed about in 1565.
The statue was commissioned by the Cardinal Legate of the city, Charles Borromeo, to symbolize the fortunate recent election of Borromeo's uncle as Pope Pius IV.

The Basilica of San Petronio is the main church of Bologna. It dominates Piazza Maggiore. It is the sixth largest church of Europe. It's 132 metres long and 66 metres wide, while the vault reaches 45 metres inside and 51 metres in the facade.

The basilica is dedicated to the saint patron of the city, Saint Petronius, who was the bishop of Bologna in the fifth century. The construction was a communal project of Bologn: the property was a symbol of communal power that was not transferred from the city to the diocese until 1929; the basilica was finally consecrated in 1954.

This is Piazza Maggiore, located in front of Saint Petronio's Church.
On the left of the photo, near the church, there is the Palazzo dei Notai, built in 1381 by the city's notaries guild as their seat.
In front of us, there is Palazzo d'Accursio, which is the Town Hall of the city.

Over the you can see The Two Towers, which are the symbol of Bologna, and the most high of the many Towers of Bologna.
The taller one is called the Asinelli while the smaller is called the Garisenda. Their names come from the families which are traditionally credited for their construction between 1109 and 1119.
Asinelli Tower is 97.2 m high. The Garisenda Tower initially was approximately 60 m high, but had to be lowered in the 14th century due to a yielding of the ground which left it slanting and dangerous; now is 48 m high.
Towers is Middle Age were built as challenge between important families. The higher was the tower, the most important was the family.

Unfortunately, the street in under maintenance, so I had to see them by far.

Dear mum, the weather here is terrible. Rainy and cold. So I'm learning to cook another Italian food, the "polenta".
We take some vegetables (mushrooms and zucchini) and cut them in slices. We boil them with some water.
In the meantime, we wait until a pot with some water boils, them we pour the corn flour in the water and mix well until it solidifies. This will take few minutes. This is the polenta.
For dinner, I'm eating polenta with mushrooms, zucchini and gorgonzola cheese!

Hi mum! Today we are helping Goldmoon's mother to make tortellini for Easter Lunch!
She kneaded eggs and flour until she had a smooth dough. Then she uses a rolling pin to reduce the dough in a very thin pasta. This pasta is cutted in small squares which are filled with a meat filling. Each square in closed in the typical shape of the tortellino.
We'll eat them during the Easter lunch!

This is the Sanctuary of the Madonna of Saint Luca.
It is placed over a forested hill, called "Colle della Guardia", about 300 metres above the city plain.
It is a very beloved monument for people of Bologna, because when you are driving on the motorway, this is the first thing you can see and you can feel to be almost at home
goldmoon

Posted Feb 27, 2016, 10:22 pm
The Sanctuary can be reached by car, but you can also walk under the monumental roofed arcade (Portico of Saint Luca, 3.8 km long) consisting of 666 arches, which was built in 1674-1793. It was meant to protect the icon of the black Madonna when, during a yearly procession, it is taken from here and carried to the Cathedral of San Pietro in the centre of Bologna. It stays there for one week, usually in the month of May, then it is carried back to the Sanctuary.

It was so exciting! The dish turns to collect the radio frequency.
