Hi there!

My name is Eliott and i was rescued from a charity shop today by my human and a group of visiting toy voyagers. They accepted me as one of their own and told me all about this site and places they had been because of it. I was very excited and asked my human so set me up right away!

My human was already taking her toys out for the day, so i joined in with their travels.

We drove to the next town over, Portland, which was the host of the Olympic sailing events in 2012. The town is basically its own island, connected to the country by a single bridge, which had been flooded for the best part of the past few days so Portland had been shut off.

My human told us that there were lots of Olympic memorabilia around, but it was too windy for us to go and visit them. However, all over England there are gold, silver and bronze coloured post boxes in the home towns of Olympic medallists so we managed to visit the one that was on Portland

The plaque on the side of the mailbox said:

We then went back to my human's house, where i was freed from my dreaded tag and given my Toy Voyagers ID.

I can't wait to start my travels! Please PM my human if you wish to host me!

Hi guys!

My human took me and the other TVs on a day trip to the Sea Life Centre, which is a place where rescued sea animals who cannot be released back into the sea spend the rest of their days.

She told us about how she used to go there all the time as a kid, and would always love it, so i was really looking forward to going.

First we went into the Stingray enclosure. It was basically a big tank with various fish and stingrays in with an open top so you could see in. It also had a bridge over the top so you could see the whole tank from above.

Stingrays like to bury themselves under the sand, which was what this one was doing.

In the shark enclosure, they had large viewing bubbles that you could sit in, so here we are relaxing.

I made friends with a shark! It wasn't scary at all, he was just lazying around on the rocks, watching everyone go past. He was very big though!

Here's me with a baby crocodile!

The baby sea horses were very cute! Did you know that the males carry the babies?

We then saw the penguins. it was really dark inside, so it was nice to be out in the sun again.

Group picture in the turtle tunnel!

There were lots of fish in the tunnel, along with sharks and turtles.

I finally got to see a real life turtle! All the animals in the tunnel were hit by boats, so the odd shape of his shell was caused by him being hit by a boat. He's perfectly fine though!

Jellyfish! (they're not actually pink, its just a colour changing light so you could see them better in the dark room.)

Hi again!

I made it safely to the United States!  I had to wait a little bit before I met my host mom because she was visiting family in New York so I stayed in Wisconsin with my host dad.  Here's a picture of me finally being able to get out and stretch my legs!

They have another cat named Chet but he's grumpy and so I stayed away from him.

But I met lots of other friends there.  A robin made out of yarn!  I really liked her.

When I first arrived it was raining.  It rained every day for two weeks straight!  But that's okay, we drank a lot of tea and explored my new home.  And I got to play with their one year old son.  He's so sweet and very gentle with me.  We have been on so many adventures, I can't wait to tell you all about them!

I read lots of stories with their little boy.  He has so many books.  I really liked looking at the pictures.  With the weather being so bad all we could do is read books and cuddle on the couch.  It was very nice actually.  My host mom says that when it clears up she'll take us to the zoo.  I can't wait!

We didn't do much until the weekend.  After the baby was asleep my host mom took me out for some drinks with friends.  It was great fun!  We rode on her green bike and I got to try a Chicago dog from a food truck.  It was delicious.  Then we stopped off at a brewery.  My host mom let me try a little beer - I hope you're not mad about that, Mom.  Then we went to a show.  I fell asleep on the ride home I was so exhausted.  I think we'll all sleep in tomorrow.

We went to the zoo today.  It was so much fun.  It's not a very big zoo but I got to see buffalo, hyenas, tigers, lots of birds, sheep, goats, and a donkey.  I was hoping to see an elephant like me but there wasn't one there.  Oh well, we still had fun.

We went on a walk today and found a cave.  There a lot of breweries around here and they use to use caves to keep their beer cool before refrigeration.

Saturday is Farmer's Market day and they have a huge one here.  There aren't too many veggies out yet but we did get rhubarb, onions, and asparagus.  My host mom is going to make a rhubarb meringue pie.  She said I can help.

Then we took a walk to a park and had a breakfast picnic of coffee and donuts.  The park has a labyrinth and we played there.  There's also an old railroad bridge that has been converted into a walk bridge.  It was a beautiful day.

Hello, we were about to visit Tiananmen today.
Checking the map carefully we found there is a stop named Tianmen West station on line 1.
With no doubt, we got to that station in about 18 mins.
I walked through exit C and there was an entrance to the National Center for the Performing Arts!
A short visit would be nice.
goomymia

Here I got to the hall of NCPA National Center for the Performing Arts.
That is not short I even can't type the whole name into the 'Place'.
Mia told us we are about to meet Amy who will join us for today.
But 20 mins' ve passsed, we still haven't seen her yet.
We found a place to have a seat and play some games to kill time.
Honesly it was quite boring. So we finally decided to take a look at the National Theater.

Hello, we are sitting in front of the Great Hall of the People.
It's a place where holds important meetings inside.
All the leaders from other countries would come here if they visit China.
The nearest visit from UK might be our Prime Minister David William Donald Cameron on December 2, 2013.

Keeping moving, we saw a traditional architecture called Zhengyangmen.
It used to be a gate in Beijing's historic city wall and was built in 1419 Ming Dynasty.
The 'mén' here means gate in chinese. We will move closer to have a look at it later.
The building which looks like a box in the second photo is Chairman Mao Memorial Hall.
Mia said it used to be a gate of the Forbidden City at that location long times ago.

Hi, it is Zhengyangmen over there.
Walked along a long underpass we finally arrived at the Tiananmen Square.
If we walk through Zhengyangmen  to south we will be on the Qianmen Street.
That street is a quite famous commercial street in history, it still is right now.
Turn to north and west we can see the monument to the people's heroes and Tiananmen.
The last photo is National Museum.

Something isn't going that well today.
We were about to visit the National Museum which has lots of antiques inside.
Our companion Amy realized she forgot her ID at home when we got to the entrance.
That's not good news.
The guard won't let us in without ID card, so we can just change the plan.
At least we captured these dragon heads.

Next stop: the Tiananmen tower.
It took us a while to cross the Changan Ave, sure we walked through the underpass again and we needed to join a long queue to pass the security check. The girl who holds me and Anton Bär in the third photo below is Amy. She is a really lovely girl but also a little bit forgetful sometimes.

We can't visit the National Museum today, so we decided to go for a walk outside the Forbidden City and have a look at a corner tower.
The first photo is the National Theater which we just visited a few hours before.

Walked through Changan Ave and then turned right to the Beichangjie we saw this gorgeous building at the east side of the street! The tablet on the wall indicates that this is a very valuable historic site.
Unfortunately we can't visit inside, it's not open to the public.

Hello, here is a photo I took when I was waiting the traffic lights.
The white tower on back is White Dagoba on Qionghua Island in Beihai Park.
It's a buddhist building which was built to honour the visit of the 5th Dalai Lama in 1651.
Maybe I could move closer to have a look at it next time.

Hi, we finally got to the corner tower!
Mia said it is the northwest corner tower of the Forbidden City. There are four of them in total. MooseS suggested to take a group photo together.
Here are some info I found online:

Quote:
At the four corners of the wall sit towers with intricate roofs boasting 72 ridges, reproducing the Pavilion of Prince Teng and the Yellow Crane Pavilion as they appeared in Song dynasty paintings. These towers are the most visible parts of the palace to commoners outside the walls, and much folklore is attached to them. According to one legend, artisans could not put a corner tower back together after it was dismantled for renovations in the early Qing dynasty, it was only rebuilt after the intervention of carpenter-immortal Lu Ban.

Posted Feb 15, 2015, 10:09 am
After the corner tower I went to the northern gate of the Forbidden City.
There is a hill nearby the gate. If we get to the top of the hill, the official name is Jingshan Park, we could have a birds' eye view to see further of inner Beijing. But we were going to catch a bus to get to the Gulou, so we could climb that hill next time.
Some info about the Gate of Divine Might:

Quote:

Gate of Divine Might is the northern gate of the Forbidden City. It faces Jingshan Park. A tablet above the doorway reads "The Palace Museum" in Chinese.

The Gate was originally named The Black Tortoise Gate, this being the traditional name for the northern gate of a Chinese Imperial Palace. However when the Kangxi Emperor, whose birth name was Xuanye, ascended to the throne, the word Xuán became a sacred taboo. The character "Xuán" also has the meaning of "sacred mystery", which correlates well with the new character "Shén", meaning "divine".

Getting off the bus we saw a street sign reads Dianmenwai dajie.
The red building is Gulou. It was originally built in the 1270s by the Yuan Dynasty during the reign of Kublai Khan. Relocated and reconstructed in the 1420s by the Ming Dynasty. I also took a look at Zhonglou behind Gulou. It looks smaller than Gulou and the basic color of it is grey.

Posted Feb 15, 2015, 10:22 am
Walked along Gulou west street and then turned left, I found myself in a Hutong area.
The red sign on the wall indicates here is Dashibei Hutong. There is a Xiaoshibei Hutong nearby, these two hutongs used to be a whole one called Shibei Hutong and they were separated at the beginning of 1900s. The longer one's turned to be Dashibei Hutong since then.

The photo below is the Relic Stupa of Huayan. :)
Huayan founded Tanzhe Temple thousands years ago.
Mia told me a legend about him.

Once upon a time, Huanyan was riding a dragon traveling around the world. One day, he found a prefect place in mountains to build a monastery. But he also saw 9 dragons were living there who seemed in charge of this beautiful area. Dragons are well known as their bad tempers.
Huayan saw a black dragon producing water and having fun himself in a deep lake. :stare:
He spent some time observing the black dragon and saw him transformed to a beauty tricked villagers who came begging for rain. By the way it was so dry as a deserted place down there not far from those dragons.
Huayan can't stand this anymore, he tried to negotiate with the black dragon but failed.
Ummm...then came the fight.
Yes Huayan beat the black dragon. The black dragon promised to make it rain and safe the village, he even turned to be the decoration on the roof of Mahavira Hall after the project completion.
Well dragons are dragons, how boring it would be to merely stay on the roof. The black dragon planed to escape at a thundery night. Unfortunately he was caught by Kangxi Emperor who was just about to visit the temple. The Emperor gave order to add an extra structure on the roof of Mahavira Hall to chain the dragon.

oh..

We had lunch at Huguosi Snack. Wow this is a giant Fried Dough Twists!
Here is the recipe, I'd like to make one someday :stare:
Quote:
2 cups flour
2 eggs
2 tablespoons canola oil, plus more for frying
3/4 cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 cup water
Mix together all ingredients to form a smooth, hard dough. This is important so that the dough twists maintain their shape and don't stick together before frying. Working with about a third of the dough at a time, roll out on a lightly floured surface into a circle that is a little less than a quarter of an inch thick. Slice horizontally into strips. Cut those strips into two inch rectangles where possible, but not wasting any of the leftover pieces. With all pieces, including irregular ones, slice slit lengthwise down middle of dough about a quarter of an inch from either end.
Working with one piece of dough at a time, pull one end through the center so that a twist forms. Pull that same end through again so that the strip is more twisted. Set aside on a tray. Repeat with rest of the dough.
Drop batches of twists into a pot of hot oil and fry until golden brown on each side. This will happen quickly so be sure to flip diligently. Remove onto a paper towel-lined plate and serve.

*After cooling completely, twists will last weeks in an airtight container.

I put on a green hair band to welcome her. Although not exactly come from the same place, we are both from UK anyway.

Slowly-Slowly was a little confused with Wales. Annie showed us the flag of Wales which was painted on a sheep haha. She also pointed out where Wales is on the map and told us a lot of stories of Wales. Then we explored a bit of our host's home..
She is very lovely and very pink very very pink. Look how pink she is. :)
A good news, our friend Cherry Lola is on the way to Africa! Ummm wish I could go with her.

Happy Children's Day!!!

I was just trying to escape from a golden man.
..He dressed like a man of Qing Dynasty, and behaved very strange. :o

We went to a Chongqing Xiaomian restaurant to taste some traditional Chinese.
Chongqing is a beautiful city located in south China, famous for its spicy, both for food and girls...haha.  :p
People said Chongqing looks like Hong Kong in mainland China. Wish I could go visit there someday.

The noodles were so very spicy. I just had a bit of it..
After the meal, we spent some time wandering around the street nearby.

We found that the moon was really bright and clear last night, so we planned a tiny small walking trip along the river in this afternoon, ummm actually during the lunch break.
Look how blue the sky was!!! :)
Passing through the gate of Mia's work place, we saw the Military Museum, went on to the cross roads on the west, the not that tall architecture is the old CCTV building, most people might know the new one which is located in CBD, also well-known for its pants-shape appearence. Followed by the Chinese Century Altar, a photo exhibition was held inside. Oh that was Vivisn Maier...
We finally arrived to the river bank, the river itself looks bluer because of the sky. Mia said the metal bridge reminded her of Tyne Bridge, do you think they look similar?
The under the bridge picture was under the 3rd ring road of Beijing;)
