Hi there!
I am Tommi. I lived in Germany until last summer, when I followed sannah to the United States. Here I met Nils who is also from Germany, but travels the world on his own. I talk to him a lot ... ... he had to tell so many interesting stories about his experiences, so I decided to become a toy voyager myself. I am really looking forward to see the world on my own ... The view from sannahs patio is so limited! Maybe I can visit your place soon? Greetings, Tommi |

Hi there!
This morning, sannah has had some things to do downtown and I sneaked into her purse to go with her. There is not really a large market square like in most European countries, but two smaller plazas, surrounded by the tall buildings that are all belonging to the well known Mayo Clinic: enough space for research, administration, patient care - you name it! This is an old movie theater called Chateau - today, it is a book store. Now have a look at the Peace Plaza: The nice building in the middle is the Plummer Building. Nils told me he sat nearly on top of it ... but somehow I can't believe him ... sannah quickly returned to her car because she was only allowed to park 30 minutes where she was. So here I'm sitting on the top of the trunk of her car, overlooking 1st Ave W. As you can see, not all buildings are that tall. Some are older and smaller, most of them with smaller shops or restaurants on the first floor. Because at lunch hour, the streets are crowded with people who want to grab something to eat. But we were long gone ... sannah is very busy packing things. Tomorrow, we are leaving for a long weekend - a trip west, that's all I know! Greetings, Tommi |

Hi there,
last weekend was a long weekend here in the US - Monday was Memorial Day, a national holiday. sannah and friends decided to spend part of the weekend on the road in order to see the very very amazing nature of the Black Hills in South Dakota. But to be honest, most visitors of the region don't only come for the nature, but mostly for the manmade additions to the landscape. The most famous one are four heads of former presidents: from left to right George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln. The fifth head in the second row is mine! Their upper bodies have also have been engraved in the stone, but before this could have happened, the architect died. This is his statue: And along the President's Trail with a lot of stairs, you could also learn a lot about the four presidents that had been chosen to be part of Mount Rushmore. Nils and I studied Thomas Jefferson very carefully! Our journey continued, so stay tuned! All the best, Tommi |

Hi there,
right after leaving Mount Rushmore, we went to another monument carved in stone: the nearby Crazy Horse Memorial. Crazy Horse was an Indian warchief of the Lakota people and if you thought Mount Rushmore was huge, this monument is even huger! It's so huge that it wasn't possible for sannah to take a photo of me and the original - here it is as in May 2013. But there were many models of how the memorial should look like when it's finally completed and I was able to pose with one of it. You can see how much work there still is to do - and they have been working on it for decades. Korczak, the sculptor who started working on it died in 1982, but the face was completed and inaugurated not earlier than 1998! His family continues the work as his heritage and since there is no government funding, progress is only made by donations and the admission fees to the area. This is another statue by Korczak called Fighting Stallions. I do not know if Mount Rushmore or Crazy Horse was more impressive ... And that was only the beginning of me exploring the Black Hills! All the best, Tommi |

Hi there!
Today we left South Dakota and went even further west, into Northeast Wyoming. You can’t imagine how beautiful the landscape was, but maybe you can catch a glimpse with this view over Salt Creek somewhere in Wyoming. But our final destination was another National Park: Devils Tower was the first declared United States National Monument, established on September 24, 1906, by President Theodore Roosevelt. But among the local Native American tribes, the tower is called Bear's Lodge. One of the first official explorers of the area misinterpreted the name as “Bad God’s Tower” = “Devil’s Tower” and the surveyors of the following generation stuck to this name. The name Bear’s Lodge is connected to a story that is different in details, but quite similar in general among all tribes: A group of kids was chased by a bear and prayed for help. And help came when the rock they were standing on rose up to the sky. This saved the children – and it explains the structure of the tower still visible nowadays since the bear tried to climb the mountain and therefore carved it with his claws. You can see this story in the painting: Science would say Devils Tower was caused by eruption of a volcanic hotspot. Basically, it is a rock pimple. And a very outstanding one: rising dramatically 386 m above the surrounding terrain and, in general, the summit is more than 1500 m above sea level. But it is not really one solid mountain, but made up of single columns. If you have never been to Wyoming, but cannot suppress the feeling Devils Tower looks familiar to you, chances are that you are very interested in movies: In Steven Spielberg’s Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977) aliens land here. But not when we visited. All the best, Tommi |

Hi there,
this is the last part of our trip. We packed our things in the car and started driving down very curvy roads in very foggy weather, but as soon as we had passed Rapid City, the sky cleared and sun was shining brightly. But sannah and sannah-man did not want to drive home straight, but decided to take the scenic loop through Badlands National Park. It is a national park in southwestern South Dakota protecting about 100 ha of sharply eroded buttes, pinnacles, and spires blended with the largest undisturbed mixed grass prairie. The scenery reminds me of pictures I have seen from the moon or planet Mars. But let pictures speak! It looks really a little spooky, doesn't it? With not more than 4cm of rain in the whole year, this small creek might be dry forever. It is hard to believe that this scenery was once covered with a shallow ocean ... Long before mankind lived here. But fossils still can tell of those times and lots of them have been found here. Prairie grass and next to it dry rocks out of nowhere! The scenery was really impressive. Or what do you think? All the best, Tommi |

Hi there!
sannah had promised to take me alone to a very special place in town. It is located on top of a hill in the middle of a residental neighborhood. sannah parked her car and we went closer. And closer ... What looks like a cottage in the English countryside is called Plummer House. It is one of the most historic places in town. Mr. Plummer who was a doctor at the upcoming Mayo Clinic built this house for his family to live in. Nowadays, it belongs to the local Historic Society. The house itself is closed to the public (but sannah and sannah-man have once attended a special event in there and she told me that the inside matches the outside), but a nearby park is open to the public until dusk. Even the little shed looks like a small cottage! The area surrounding the house is very green at the moment and you can say "nature rules". I saw a squirrel and even a chipmunk - but they disappeared when I approached them. They must be afraid of bears. The backside of the house has a wonderful natural garden. Nowadays, you can hear lots of traffic through the trees because the Apache Mall is close - but about 80 years ago, when the house was built, it was a the city's south border and the view must have been beautiful and quiet! Oh, the reason for this trip? sannah told me I am traveling on my own soon and she wanted to see how I am doing without my buddy Nils. Obviously, I did well and she is not afraid to send me out to Germany! Someone in the sour land is already waiting for me. I hope folks there is sweet, not sour, but sannah has no doubt. I am so excited I already climbed into my envelope. But sannah calmed me down. I won't be leaving before tomorrow, she said! I hope I won't travel for too long ... All the best, Tommi |

Hi mum,
today I arrived safely in Germany in the Sauerland. Unfortunately it's raining all day. Hope the sun will come soon. Can't wait to see this beautiful landscape. Love Tommi |
melanie Posted Jun 29, 2013, 6:40 pm |
Hi mum,
today I get some first impressions of the small village. I saw the church, the "Schützenhalle", and the new traffic circle. The monument on the top is new, they just did it yesterday. Here in the village three districts come togehter: Kreis Olpe (OE), Märkischer Kreis (MK) and the Hochsauerlandkreis (HSK). That shows this monument. And I saw the stone od Pater Kilian, he was very important for Rönkhausen, so they remember him. Love, Tommi |
melanie Posted Jul 2, 2013, 5:00 pm |
Hi mum,
I saw some other points in Rönkhausen. Tomorrow we want to go to the Sorpesee. Love Tommi |

Hi there!
Back in Germany, sannah found a pleasant surprise waiting for her at her parents’ place: Me! As the weather was nice, sannah took me sightseeing to her former university city: Halle at the river Saale. A few months ago, the city hit national news because of a severe flooding. We started at University Square. The Löwengebäude serves mostly official and representative purpose. Here we all posed with one of the two lions in front of the entrance to the Löwengebäude which means lion buiding in German. All buildings at University Square were beautifully restored. In this building called Robertinum, sannah took classes in classics (history of the Roman Empire). Then we went to the Market Square – this so called Red Tower is one of the five towers that make up the city’s skyline. It was nice to get to know all these places! All the best, Tommi |

Hi there!
Yesterday was fun! I met many other toyvoyagers and had a picknick sitting on blankets in the Lüneburger Heide or Lunenburg Heath. But it wasn’t a toyvoyager meet-up, we all met because our hosts are participating in postcrossing, too. But the scenery around our place was really really beautiful – have a look for yourself! Isn’t the heath beautiful in its purple blossom? Soon I am going to travel again, I’ll stay in Germany first and then travel to an island – at least sannah promised me that. All the best, Tommi |

Hello Mum,
I arrived in Sülfeld. Dicker Kumpel will be my host here - and he gave me a warm welcome. Then he introduced me to his guests. I showed my postcard and my sweets and then we spent the afternoon talking about our adventures. I will write more soon. Love Tommi |

Hello Mum,
We are on the Amrum Island now. It is a beautiful Island in the North Sea. Today we took a walk. It seems to be a nice place. We walked along this wooden path. And I saw this beautiful lake in the middle of the Dunes. Then we climbed up a Dune and saw the lighthouse far away. This is the view to the other side. Here you see the smaller Dunes – maybe they will be high when I come back in 10 years? It is a very big beach. Many birds flew around there. Mum, I have the strange feeling that the weather looks bad on the photos, but we didn’t have the feeling of bad weather. Love Tommi |

Hello Mum,
Today was an important day…but not for us ToyVoyagers. Dicker Kumpel’s Mum RikeH married her finance on the lighthouse of Amrum today. We TVs were not with them, but we waited at home. There were only some gifts, because they decided to celebrate their wedding alone as a couple. But someone wrote a huge card! Who was it? Well – how amazing! The ones of you who love Darts will definitely know this man! Then we looked into a small nice book with lovely poems about love and marriage. We all wanted to get a piece of the wedding cake! I liked the flowers! Later another gift arrived – it was from a very good friend of RikeH. We opened it and found this lovely pair of koala bears together with more nice stuff. But now I want to say: Congratulations RikeH! Love Tommi |

Hi Mum,
In the morning I went onto our balcony and saw the ferry. Fortunately we still have some days here, so we enjoyed the sunshine. Later that day the weather went much better – and I took a walk to the small beach – and saw another ferry. Can you see the lighthouse far behind me? It was great sitting in the Dunes. And I found some nice shells. Love Tommi |
RikeH Posted Sep 9, 2013, 2:44 pm |
Hello Mum,
Today we walked to a small lighthouse called Quermarkenfeuer. We saw nice Erica plants between the Dunes. Then we saw the Quermarkenfeuer. Look- there was an aerial photo of it. I stood next to the small lighthouse and had great views over the Dunes – and to the North Sea. What a nice small lighthouse! We had to walk this way! With a little rest in the erica. Then we went to a place called Vogelkoje. I learnt a lot about it on this sign. Ducks were caught in these traps in the Past. This is a nicer place – insects can live in it. On our way back we stopped next to this wonderful mill. It looked so great! Yours Tommi |

Hello Mum,
Sunday was our last day on Amrum – and we relaxed on our beach chair. We thought that it was boring to sit next to each other, so we all searched our own place. Can you find me? Yes, here I am! Later that day we drove home to Sülfeld. I will see more of Dicker Kumpel’s home there. Bye Tommi |

Hello Mum,
It was a great day today. Murph and Nathalie came and visited us! We got a gift. Later it was time for a surprise. Dicker Kumpel built a Time Machine for us. We all were very surprised. He had to tell us more about the technology inside and hoped that we would try it with him. It went darker and darker. He opened the door. Should we trust him and try it out? Yes, we did! We all went into the machine. Bye – it will start soon! Love you Mum! There was a big silence inside the Time Machine and we only heard the noise of the Machine. Then the noise stopped and the door opened. Wow, what a trip! We all felt fine – but where were we – and WHEN were we? Murph and Dicker Kumpel jumped onto the Time Machine – it worked. We travelled through the time – it is Murph’s Birthday! Yours Tommi To be continued… |
RikeH Posted Sep 27, 2013, 7:06 pm |
Hello Mum,
27th of September! It was Murph’s birthday and we created a wall out of mushrooms for him. It looked great! Then we sang a wonderful birthday song for Murph. And he got some gifts! Then it was time for dinner. We had a marshmallows barbecue. I sat directly next to Murph – can you see me? It was great sitting around the fire with friends. Our marshmallows were ready. It was delicious! In the evening RikeH and HoBi had a great surprise for us! A firework! It went darker! It started! What a wonderful evening! Love Tommi |
RikeH Posted Sep 28, 2013, 10:49 am |
Hello Mum,
We woke up in the Time Machine. What date would it be? We were lucky, because we were back in the middle of September – it was the 15th of September – and again one of us had his birthday – it was TobiHH! We sang a song for him and wished him luck and happiness. Murph had a nice surprise for TobiHH. He invited him to come to Lower-Saxony with him. So we had to say goodbye to Murph, TobiHH and Nathalie. Goodbye friends! Yours Tommi |

Hello Mum,
Today we took a walk around Sülfeld. The clouds looked dark, but there was no rain. In the other direction the sky looked nicer. What a nice place to sit in the sunshine. There was a little river. I was not allowed to eat these berries. We found beautiful flowers! Greetings Tommi |

Hello Mum,
We went to the Zoo of Hamburg – called Hagenbecks Tierpark. We started with really big animals – the elephants. Then we met a family of baboons. Can you see the big animals behind me – bears! I met some relatives! Hello Uncle Brumm! Can you see me on this photo? Maybe my relatives are taller than I am . Here I am! Behind me there is the old entrance – it is so beautiful. The Zoo grew, and now it is inside the Zoo. There were nice gardens with lakes in the Zoo. I liked it here, because there were not only foreign animals, but although cows and other domestic animals. The newest part of the Zoo is called Arctic Sea. We started with the penguins. Do you know this animal? It is a walrus. There were 5 living in this basin. This was great – we could see them in the water. There were funny little animals, I don’t know the English name, but we found the Latin one: Dolichotis patagonum. We came to very hugh animals, the giraffes. It was a great day here! Tommi |

Hello Mum,
We went to a small town called Bad Oldesloe. There was a nice water wheel. Unfortunately it didn’t move. But I learnt a lot about it on this sign. Then we went to the church. It was open so we visited the church. Nice! There flew a beautiful river through the town. Will the water ever be that high? I loved these old houses. And I would love to send you these roses. Behind me you can see the town hall. And another beautiful building. Bye Tommi |
RikeH Posted Oct 13, 2013, 7:02 pm |
Hello Mum,
Today we explored Sülfeld. On this sign I learnt something about an old canal here. Normally you can see water here. I liked this tree with the red berries. I met other animals. They seemed to have a nice life here. There is a small kind of park in Sülfeld. There was a beautiful lake in the park. Later we found this beautiful flower. Behind me you can see the old school. Maybe I will be mayor when I am older? And you can see the emblem of Sülfeld on this sign. This stone was created when the church had its 800th birthday. This is the church. And this is the old pharmacy. At home we played in the garden and found another plant with red berries – well maybe it is the same kind of plant – I am not a gardener. But I know that these are different flowers. Look we found a lot of chestnuts during our walk. It seems to me that it is autumn now. Love Tommi |

Hello Mum,
Many greetings from sunny Madeira. This is our holiday house. In front of it there is this nice small palm tree. And there are more wonderful flowers and plants in the garden. And this is the best place of the house. Can you see the Cruise Ship behind me? This is the Atlantic Ocean – my dream came true! Love Tommi |

Hello Mum,
As you can see on the photo, we visited the botanical garden of Funchal today. What a wonderful view! Of course I found beautiful flowers here. This was a lake – with a waterfall! Do you know these flowers? Maybe we should plant something like this in our garden? Then I found a big cabbage. I had a great time in this garden! Yours Tommi |

Hi Mum,
We drove to the Western Part of the Island and passed a high plateau. Unfortunately the weather wasn’t that good, because we drove through the clouds… Then we reached the town called Porto Moniz. The weather looked much nicer here. This was funny – a natural swimming pool in the rocks. The ocean looked wild here. We went nearer to the big rock in the ocean. It was amazing. Later we drove to the most Western Point of Madeira. There is a beautiful small lighthouse. We had a great view over the high cliffs there. Madeira is a wonderful place. Our last stop was next to a small harbor. Yours Tommi |

Hello Mum,
NiliHH, Freya, SunnyHH and I visited the Fort Glory today. Some cowboys said hello to us. I found a great place. Freya saw something interesting – so we all looked over the fence. And that was what we saw – a big pirate ship. I jumped onto the ship and talked to these exciting men. Maybe I will become a pirate one day! Love Tommi |

We went to a place called Santana today. Look – what a wonderful big hydrangea. Behind me you can see the typical houses of Santana. What a nice place. Back home I went through the garden and found new beautiful flowers. This yellow bloom was so nice. It is great to see so many blooming plants in October. Love Tommi |

Hello Mum,
Let’s start with the view from our balcony – great! We stayed in Coimbra and spent the morning in a nice park called Jardim do Portugal dos Pequenitos. Here we saw buildings from Portugal and countries related to Portugal in a smaller size. Unfortunately not in TV-size. I liked the church. But this castle was great, too. I relaxed in the sunshine… Later we crossed the bridge and walked to the old city of Coimbra. We stopped at a nice place. Then we reached the top of the hill and saw the beautiful university. Yours Tommi |

Hello Mum,
We went through Porto today and started with a wonderful church Sao Francisco. Unfortunately we were not allowed to take photos inside, but it was so beautiful. Then we went to the port – there were nice small streets. And the view from the riverside was beautiful, too. This bridge is famous! We took an elevator to a higher point. Look, I had a nice view. This is the cathedral. And I loved this big place. It was a nice day in Porto. Yours Tommi |
RikeH Posted Nov 13, 2013, 8:40 pm |
Hello Mum,
We visited Sintra today – and there we started with the beautiful Pena Palace. I had a great view from the hill there. There was another nice Castle on the other hill. What a wonderful place! Then we went to the center of Sintra, but we didn’t find many interesting things. So we continued our trip and went to the Quinta Regaleira. It had a great garden. I started in a grotto. Here you see the grotto from the outside. This was interesting – a very deep well. From this place I had a nice view over the Castle and the small Chapel. Then we went to the most western Point of continental Europe. What a wonderful place! And I saw the Atlantic again! Our last stop was this Point in Cascais – called Hell’s mouth. This was a really great day in Portugal! Love Tommi |

Hi there,
I am still with oldieooma in Vienna, she just asked sannah to do the updates. So here I am, at the famous castle Schönbrunn in beautiful Vienna. A Christmas market was attracting many visitors, too. Just let me pretend for a moment that I own all that ... This part is called the Gloriette. But since it was a little cold outside (at least too cold for me) I was glad to check out the Wagenburg. Look at this beautiful old carriage! And following a irresistable smell, I found the Hofbäckerei (court bakery) ... ... where I had a delicious apple strudel. That is the taste of Vienna! I love it! All the best, Tommi |

Yes, I'm on the road again! Today I arrived safely in the Netherlands! First I saw an orange beak and soon after that I saw my new friends. They covered me with hugs!!! |

The wheather is a bit grey today, but the flowers are colourful. In the last picture you see Emjay's figtree. Although Holland hardly has a tropical climat, the tree produces a lot of figs each year! |
Emjay Posted Apr 29, 2014, 2:08 pm |
This is Fancy Pearl. She's not interested in me. Oh well, never mind! I'm sure she'll come around when she gets to know me.
That's it for now, mum. I hope you're fine. Give my regards to Dille and Nils. Bye, bye! Tommi |
Emjay Posted May 4, 2014, 8:05 am |
Hi mum!
Here you can see I'm really in Holland! The tulip is kind of the national flower. |
Emjay Posted May 4, 2014, 8:08 am |
Today I went on my first trip outside Delft! We went to Gouda, famous for it's cheese. This is the cheese market. |
Emjay Posted May 4, 2014, 8:09 am |
Scoop and me at the "Kaaswaag". The cheese used to be weighed here. |
Emjay Posted May 4, 2014, 8:12 am |
Gouda has some lovley historic buildings. These are the townhall and St. Jan's Church. |
Emjay Posted May 4, 2014, 8:13 am |
And here are some more nice sites of Gouda. |
Emjay Posted May 4, 2014, 8:15 am |
We have a typical Dutch lunch. No, not bread and cheese, but "patat met": chips with mayonaise. |
Emjay Posted May 4, 2014, 8:17 am |
But when home again I enjoy some Gouda cheese with my friends. One old cheese with cummin seeds and a mild younger cheese. Yummy!
That's it for now, mum! your Tommi |
Emjay Posted May 5, 2014, 12:50 pm |
Hi mum!
We visited a historic area: Agneta Park. |
Emjay Posted May 5, 2014, 12:51 pm |
Agnetapark is an area of workers' housing for the workers of the Yeast Factory. It was built in the late 19th century by order of Jacques van Marken. He and his wife Agneta were remarkable people who treated the workers and their families with respect. |
Emjay Posted May 5, 2014, 12:52 pm |
This part was built later, in the 1920's. I like the bright yellow windows. |
Emjay Posted May 5, 2014, 12:54 pm |
Today is an important day for Dutch people. It's Remembrance Day, to remember the victims of World War II.
This small statue is to honor the people of the resistance. |
Emjay Posted May 5, 2014, 12:56 pm |
Later we watch the Remembrance ceremony at the Dam Square in Amsterdam at t.v. A lot of people turned up.
King Willem Alexander and Queen Maxima look ernest. Some people place a wreath at the foot of the national War Monument. It was impressive. |
Emjay Posted May 5, 2014, 12:59 pm |
It's another important day in the Netherlands: Liberty Day. Dutch people celebrate the ending of World War II and freedom in general. It's not an official holiday, but Emjay has a day off. Some people hang out a flag. |
Emjay Posted May 5, 2014, 1:00 pm |
We walk to Emjay's old neighbourhood. |
Emjay Posted May 5, 2014, 1:01 pm |
I bet you think this is a nice, soft bale of hay. But it's made of concrete! |
Emjay Posted May 5, 2014, 1:01 pm |
Here we are at a viewpoint. |
Emjay Posted May 5, 2014, 1:02 pm |
Look, someone made a smiley outof thread! |
Emjay Posted May 5, 2014, 1:03 pm |
Nice spot. |
Emjay Posted May 5, 2014, 1:04 pm |
This is Emjay's old street: Pelikaansingel (= Pelican Alley).
Scoop thinks it's named after him! That's it for now, mum! Bye, bye, your Tommi |
Emjay Posted May 10, 2014, 3:39 pm |
Hi mum!
I've been here for more than a week now and I haven't even been to the city center of Delft. But today is the day! We went to Emjay's workplace first. We sit in her chair and have a cup of coffee, just hanging around to kill time. |
Emjay Posted May 10, 2014, 3:40 pm |
Yes, work is done! This is near Emjay's work: the only canal in Delft where houseboats are allowed. |
Emjay Posted May 10, 2014, 3:42 pm |
This is the Oostpoort (= East Gate), the only surviving city gate of Delft. There used to be four. This is the image Emjay uses as her profile pictures. It's kind of a symbol for Delft. |
Emjay Posted May 10, 2014, 3:43 pm |
Here we are at the market place. Behind us you see the New Church. It was built in the Middle Ages, so it's not that new! |
Emjay Posted May 10, 2014, 3:44 pm |
This nice building is the town hall. |
Emjay Posted May 10, 2014, 3:45 pm |
As you may know, Delft is famous for Delft Blue pottery. This mural painting is inspired by Delft Blue. On the first picture you can see another famous imagine: the girl with the pearl Earring by Vermeer. |
Emjay Posted May 10, 2014, 3:46 pm |
Here's another Delft Blue painting, on a streetlamp! |
Emjay Posted May 10, 2014, 3:47 pm |
And this is the Old Church. |
Emjay Posted May 10, 2014, 3:48 pm |
As you can see, the Old Church has a leaning tower. |
Emjay Posted May 10, 2014, 3:49 pm |
Well, this was my little touristic tour through Delft!
Bye, mum! your Tommi p.s. I <3 Delft! |
Emjay Posted May 11, 2014, 9:14 pm |
Hi mum!
We watched telly all night to see the Eurovision Song Contest. Though I live in the USA now, I still cheer for the German contestants. |
Emjay Posted May 11, 2014, 9:15 pm |
Too bad, Germany didn't win. Conchita from Austria did and The Common Linnets from Holland were runners up! |
Emjay Posted May 11, 2014, 9:17 pm |
It's Mothers' Day today. So: happy Mothers' Day, mum!
We went to a nice biological restaurant with Emjay's mum and mum-in-law and we had a great lunch. Wish you could have been there! Bye, mum! Luv you! your Tommi |
Emjay Posted May 15, 2014, 4:29 pm |
Hi mum!
We had a special day for Suomi-Girl, because she's almost leaving. We visited Royal Delft museum, where a lot of Delft Blue pottery is exhibited. |
Emjay Posted May 15, 2014, 4:30 pm |
It was Suomi-Girl's day, so Emjay didn't take a lot of pictures of the other TV's. |
Emjay Posted May 15, 2014, 4:32 pm |
This is the most impressive piece of the museum: Rembrandt's Nightwatch made of Delft Blue tiles. Due to the flashlight it looks a bit yellow, though...
That was our trip. Bye, mum! Tommi |
Emjay Posted May 18, 2014, 7:33 pm |
Dear mum,
Today Suomi-Girl is leaving us. As a surprise we covered her with chocolates! |
Emjay Posted May 18, 2014, 7:34 pm |
Off course we ate all the chocolates and chatted about our adventures. |
Emjay Posted May 18, 2014, 7:35 pm |
It's time to say goodbye now. Group hug! |
Emjay Posted May 18, 2014, 7:38 pm |
Suomi-Girl gets into her envelope. I will miss her smiling face.
That's it for now, mum. Bye, bye! your Tommi |
Emjay Posted May 29, 2014, 8:28 am |
Hi mum!
A quick note to let you know I'm fine. We didn't go out for almost a week, because it's pooring! Here are a few pics from better days! |
Emjay Posted May 29, 2014, 8:29 am |
This tunnel will be demolished. In the meantime people can make graffitti art here legally. I like this one! |
Emjay Posted May 29, 2014, 8:30 am |
A piece of Italy in Delft! This must be the ugliest bridge I ever saw! |
Emjay Posted May 29, 2014, 8:32 am |
A nice flag on the Saturday market. They sell underwear.
That's it for now, mum. Hoping for better weather! Love, Tommi |
Emjay Posted May 30, 2014, 2:52 pm |
Hi mummy!
Yay! Finally the sun is shining! We're in the garden to meet a new TV. She is a stay-at-home TV and she's called Hollandia. She's a bear, but only a bit bigger than me! |
Emjay Posted May 31, 2014, 4:36 pm |
Our new friend Hollandia showed us another part of Delft, to the north of the center.
We started at windmill "The Rose", the only surviving windmill of Delft. |
Emjay Posted May 31, 2014, 4:36 pm |
Behind me you see the old watertower. It's a congres center now. |
Emjay Posted May 31, 2014, 4:38 pm |
In the sixties the drinking water in Delft was bad. The city council provided the inbabitants with fresh drinking water. Outof gratitude the inhabitants of Delft donated this monument to the council. |
Emjay Posted May 31, 2014, 4:39 pm |
We visit a mysterious grave... |
Emjay Posted May 31, 2014, 4:41 pm |
"Here rests Louis XVII" the tombstone says. But that isn't true! Karl Naundorff was buried here. He was an imposter, claiming he was Louis XVII.
If you like to know more about this mysterious man, follow this link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karl_Wilhelm_Naundorff |
Emjay Posted May 31, 2014, 4:42 pm |
Gee, another monument! This one is dedicated to Prof. Huet. It's nice to sit on and have a little rest. |
Emjay Posted May 31, 2014, 4:43 pm |
This used to be the mayor's house. Now it's an office. |
Emjay Posted May 31, 2014, 4:45 pm |
And yet another monument! This is a sculpture of former Queen Wilhelmina. She reigned during the second World War. She is the great-grandmother of King Willem Alexander. |
Emjay Posted May 31, 2014, 4:46 pm |
A tropical paradise! Come on, Scoop, let's fly away! |
Emjay Posted May 31, 2014, 4:47 pm |
Here is some more graffitti art, behind the station. Yoohoo, can you see me in the first picture, mum? |
Emjay Posted May 31, 2014, 4:48 pm |
You can see Dutch people cycle a lot! |
Emjay Posted May 31, 2014, 4:50 pm |
Some nice poppy's for you, mum!
It was a great day! Big hug and give my regards to Nils! Tommi |
oldieoma Posted Jun 1, 2014, 12:04 pm |

Emjay Posted Jun 4, 2014, 6:56 am |
Hi mum!
We had great fun last night! Emjay took us to a singing workshop given by a very talented musician. This is the song Emjay sang. |
Emjay Posted Jun 4, 2014, 6:58 am |
And now we are jamming ourselves! We even found an interesting looking Mozart piece. Looks old. I think Mozart wrote it himself! |
sannah Posted Jul 8, 2015, 6:48 pm |
Hi there,
did you miss me? I am still alive and traveling! After visiting Emjay, I went back to sannah and she took me with her to Greece! My fifth European country to visit - mission completed! I have not been to a beach for quite some time, neither has sannah. So we came to the middle leg (or finger) of Halkidiki - shaped like Poseidon's trident and sticking out into the Aegean Sea. Here is the sea! But we were not alone, so I kept on watching people and enjoyed the sea from sannah's sun chair. One last view of a little bit more than water ... All the best, Tommi |
sannah Posted Jul 8, 2015, 7:10 pm |
Hi there,
since sannah and I were traveling with locals, we knew it was best to arrive at the beach very early in the day and stay until lunch to avoid the crowds. Therefore, we had lunch on the first leg of Halkidiki, in Afytos, right opposite the beach we had been before. Isn't that a perfect view for lunch?!? All the best, Tommi |
sannah Posted Aug 3, 2015, 4:49 am |
Hi there!
I am again traveling with sannah, first back to the United States, but now we are in Ontario, Canada! Can you be even more precise by just looking at the picture and guessing? Right, those are the Niagara Falls, all three of them. And this is a shot of the American Falls and the small Bridal Veil Falls at the right. sannah took me on a boat tour and all people were dressed in funny looking red ponchos. The boat took off and we got way closer to the falls. And then sannah and I both realized that the ponchos were actually needed. Boy, sannah was soaked from the hips down, the poncho just kept her upper half and her purse with me dry. But looking back again, the trip was still worth it. The sun luckily made the clothes dry quickly, but this view back certainly is full of memories made. Niagara Falls was only our first stop on our short trip to Canada. That's it for today! All the best, Tommi |
sannah Posted Aug 4, 2015, 6:05 pm |
Hello again!
My adventures in Canada continue! We visited the third largest city of North America (not including Mexico) and the largest of Canada: Toronto! And this is the most famous landmark of the city, the CN Tower. It was the world's highest building upon its completion in the 1970s. The white bowl is the Rogers Centre where the ceremonies of the PanAm Games where held at the time. In the picture as well: a yellow school bus and a real Canadian fire truck! We then took the street car up Spadina Ave towards Chinatown and Kensington Market. But we still had a nice view of the CN Tower from a distance. We then had a nice stroll through the streets of Toronto. Look, this skyscraper looks like a sail! What a good choice as we were close to the Harbourfront. The beginning of our walk was also the end: Union Station, including a last look at the omnipresent tower. I liked Toronto, it is a big city, but very safe! All the best, Tommi |
sannah Posted Aug 4, 2015, 6:16 pm |
Hi there! We made it almost back to the USA, but stayed on the Canadian side of the Detroit River for one last night. The riverfront of Windsor has a beautiful look upon the skyline of Detroit in the distance. It was almost sunset when we discovered an old train in the park at the riverfront. It was preserved as a memory of the historic railroad connecting Toronto with Sarnia or Detroit. Lots of people like to bike, walk their dogs or go jogging on the riverfront trail. Sunset was getting very close! Those have only been a few days in Canada, but this picture says it all ... Love, Tommi |
sannah Posted Aug 4, 2015, 6:24 pm |
Hi there,
I am back in town with sannah. The view of Zumbro River has not changed much since I last saw it. Only the building on the opposite river bank is new, sannah told me it is a senior living center. Bye for now! Tommi |
sannah Posted Apr 5, 2016, 4:41 pm |
Hi there! sannah's husband took me with him on an business trip to Los Angeles! It was sunny and very, very warm during our stay - but it was only the end of February! Downtown Los Angeles does not look that different from other cities its size. It is made for business, the tourists are elsewhere. Los Angeles is huge with lots of suburbs. According to sannah's husband, highways are always crowded although there are six lanes in one direction. And the air pollution is relatively high ... But enjoy pictures from sunny California! Yours, Tommi |
sannah Posted Apr 5, 2016, 4:50 pm |
Hi there! I did not make it to the Pacific Ocean while staying in L.A., but to Hollywood! This is the famous view with the letters of Hollywood Hills in the very background (see, they are there, look at the arrow!). The area really is crowded with tourists, sannah's husband took an afternoon of from work and joined them. He walked the Walk of Fame and we found many famous names ... And last, but not least, a personal favorite of sannah's husband: Greetings to all, Tommi |
