Hello Everyone! My name is Chompers and I am a little puppy. I was given to my owner by her sister Jessica. Jessica said that I needed a home where I would be well loved and taken care of. Michele thought that I should become a TV. I only have one host at the moment and am looking for more. If you would like to be my host please PM Michele. On Saturday I'll be leaving for Europe, I'm a little nervous but excited too.

I woke up this morning and said my goodbyes to Honey Bear and Nicki Bear. They both wished me good luck and told me to keep in touch. I'm not sure where I'm going but I'm sure that my owner knows. Until next time.....

I eat a happy meal and it was delicious.

After that i saw a lot off mills!
Unfortunately i didn't see a mill from the inside but maybe we do that later on.

Do you see that sign on the bridge? It says that they advise against swimming  :(
But on the other hand, it was cold today! So it's better for my health that i can't take a swim in the water.

I'm gonna sleep now.

Hello!

That evening we watched the dutch version of idols. It was very exciting because there were four candidates left.

After lunch we went to the forest in Bergen, Noord Holland. Bergen is known as an artistic village. It is near the sea and in the spring and summer there are a lot of tourists. You can find there a rune of a church and maybe we visit that later this week or next week.

Eva, Mirdin and i played hide and seek and they couldn't find me. I climb in a tree and after hours of searching they finally find me
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b65/Eryah/toyvoyagers/bos001.jpg

The second time they found me immediately
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b65/Eryah/toyvoyagers/bos002.jpg

Hello!

Yesterday Eva had here date and Theo don't want to miss a thing so he crawled into her bag. It was so funny because i allready know that Eva decided to stay home with the boy  :D
We were sitting on the table and saw it al.

Later on when the boy left the building we heard the mail man. Theo and i were very curious what he brought us. We immediately recognise that kind of envelope. The TV who was into it was scared to come out
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b65/Eryah/toyvoyagers/chomperstheonelly002.jpg

Theo and i spoke to him and told him that it wasn't necessary to be scared. Theo shouted come out, it is very excited here and suddenly whe saw a tiny orange head came out of the envelope
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b65/Eryah/toyvoyagers/chomperstheonelly004.jpg

We asked him who he was and what his goals are.
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b65/Eryah/toyvoyagers/chomperstheonelly003.jpg
Meet Nelly. He's a very sweet guy and we became friends as soon as we saw each other.

Because of al the talking we are getting very hungry and Eva made us a real nice pizza
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b65/Eryah/toyvoyagers/chomperstheonelly005.jpg

That evening i told the other two about idols and how excited it is to watch. The semi finals were on and we couldn't decided wich girl must left the show. They all are great singers and beautifull girls.
Everybody, even the host, cried when we heard wich girl it was.
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b65/Eryah/toyvoyagers/chomperstheonelly006.jpg

Because we were all emotional we decided to sleep togheter in one bed
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b65/Eryah/toyvoyagers/chomperstheonelly007.jpg

I made such good friends here and really love them.

Today Eva learned us some dutch words.
Hello= Hallo
Bye= Doeg or Doei
I love you= Ik hou van jou
Hugs= Knuffel
Sheep= Schaap

Eva is now going to learn us ride on a bike. I'm very excited but also a little bit scared but Eva told me she stay with us and never let us drop.

Hi mum!

It was so much fun to ride on a bike! I found it a little bit scary to sit on it but fortunate for me the bike has wheels on his frame so i won't have to balance.

Eva hold me tight and told me what to do. After a few minutes i want to try it on my own. And i did it!
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b65/Eryah/toyvoyagers/tvsopfiets003.jpg

Here in Holland everybody rides on a bike. People here learn it to their children almost before they can walk. I looked my eyes out to see al those people riding on it.
I found it suprising to see that nobody here wear a helmet for their own safety but Eva told me that it's normal here.
Mummy, can i have my own bike when i'm at home again? It's so much fun :)
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b65/Eryah/toyvoyagers/tvsopfiets004.jpg

We eat a delicious salad and a vegetarian burger. It was a little bit strange to eat because you expect meat. It even look likes beaf. But it was nice to eat.

On the camping were he lives you have a lot of playgrounds so we really want to play. They had a swing, slide etc etc so it was so much fun to be there!
Mirdin, Theo, Nelly and i tried everything there.
Finally the weather was better today then the days before. We saw rain almost the whole time but today we saw a shiny sun and it was warmer. I hope it stays this way.

Hello!

Yesterday was a rainy day. We looked outside the window all day long hoping for some sunshine.
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b65/Eryah/toyvoyagers/tvsenoorbel001.jpg

Later that evening it finally stopped raining.
Eva read us a bedtime story called Dikke Dik. It's a funny story about a fat lazy red cat. In the story they play hide and seek and nobody can find Dikkie Dik. After look every where in the house they find him sleeping in a laundry-basket . They all got tired and decided to sleep togheter in the basket.

Today we decided to go to Bergen aan Zee. It's also a village near the sea. On our way to the beach we drove trought 'De eeuwige laan'. It's on of the most expensive streets in the Netherlands. We saw some of the houses there and they are big and beautifull to see. When you see those houses you automaticely start dreaming about live there. Eva told us that the people who live in that houses got their own private piece of forest. That's in the same forest i've been before and show you pictures of. But you must be very rich to buy a house in that street. Unfortunally we couldn't get the houses on a picture but here we are in the car watching it:
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b65/Eryah/toyvoyagers/tvsenoorbel002.jpg
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b65/Eryah/toyvoyagers/tvsenoorbel003.jpg

Here we drove on a street called De zeeweg. It's a long street that leads us to the beach and a little village
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b65/Eryah/toyvoyagers/tvsenoorbel004.jpg
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b65/Eryah/toyvoyagers/tvsenoorbel005.jpg

We finally arived and walked to the beach. But there was a fortuitous case: the wind. Mirdin start crying and we also cried because we al got scared the wind blow us away. The sea lookes wild so we decided to play somewere else with our bucket and shovel.
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b65/Eryah/toyvoyagers/tvsenoorbel006.jpg

We went to the duines instead and there it was not so windy and we played for a while
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b65/Eryah/toyvoyagers/tvsenoorbel009.jpg

After that we went to Egmond aan Zee. You got some lovely stores there and we buy some souvenirs to send home.

We also saw a lighthouse. Wow, that's a high building!
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b65/Eryah/toyvoyagers/tvsenoorbel010.jpg

Eva told us that tommorow we are gonna eat kroketten. I'm very curious how that taste!

Big hugs,

Chompers
Eryah

Posted Feb 29, 2008, 4:21 pm
Hello!

First i wanna show you a kroket and a frikandel. Both are typical dutch snacks. They taste delicious and if you ever go visit Holland you must eat it.
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b65/Eryah/toyvoyagers/zeeaquarium001.jpg

Today we went to Alkmaarderhout. This park is a part of an old forest with many old trees. You will find an animal farm and the prison.
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b65/Eryah/toyvoyagers/zeeaquarium002.jpg

We wanna see animals but unfortunately the animal farm was closed. We can only see them trought the gates.
The sheeps and goats were inside so we couldn't see them at all but the deers were outside
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b65/Eryah/toyvoyagers/zeeaquarium006.jpg

Look at this beautifull antlers. I'm a little bit jealous right now. I want such angtlers too!
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b65/Eryah/toyvoyagers/zeeaquarium003.jpg

Because the animal farm was closed we decided to go to the Zee aquarium in Bergen aan Zee. Here you have some information about the fish there.

Many fish are as big as a child, because of their size they seem to be very dangerious, but do not harm. Of course the sharks are a different story, watch out for them. Have you noticed that some of these big boys have gloomy colours? They need these dark shades to hunt for other fish. With too many colours their prey can see them coming from a mile away. But there are also fish that need these sharp colours to scare their enemies from them. The Scorpion fish, for example, is a fish that the others stay away from; one sting from this one could mean the end of their life.

An average crayon box does not have enough to paint all of the fish. That's how many shades there are. In the Zee aquarium they have a fish (actually it's a mammal) that does not need much colouring; this is the sperm whale skeleton, it's size is almost 15 meters long and the largest creature in the aquarium.
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b65/Eryah/toyvoyagers/zeeaquarium007.jpg

Hello!

Today we went to the dunes of Petten.
You have an area there were you can walk and enjoy the nature out there.
There is also a nuclear facility in Petten. It is meant for research and doesn't give electricity. But we only see the facility from a distance.
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b65/Eryah/toyvoyagers/petten002.jpg

We take Dharma with us and today was the first day we try to let him walk on a leading string. It was great because he immediately start walking with us and you can see he enjoyed it to walk for himself instead of being carried around.
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b65/Eryah/toyvoyagers/petten009.jpg

In the end we watched the vieuw from the dunes. You can see a lot from up there. They have a lot of fields full with flower bulbs. Eva told us that in the spring you can see a lot of flowers and it's an explosion off colours.

Hello!

Today we said goodbye to Theo. He's on his way now to the next host. I hope i meet him again. He became a good friend of mine. Goodbye little Theo and good luck on your trail!
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b65/Eryah/toyvoyagers/ruinekerkbergen001.jpg

We went to the Ruinechurch in Bergen.
This picturesque ruin church in Bergen once was the biggest church in Noord-Holland. From the 16th century church there is only a ruin left now, because the Beggars started a fire here. Only the choir of the church was rebuilt, so from the original church you can now only see the ruins.
In the village Bergen in Noord-Holland there are many beautiful old houses situated around the old village church.

Hello!

Today it is such a rainy and windy day that we decided to stay at home and discover funny games to play. Because Palmeke hasn't met the pets here we first introduced them all to each other.
On the cage were the rabbit and guinea pig lives in i saw a little house and thought it would be funny to see if we fit in it.
It worked and inside the house it was very warm and cosy.
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b65/Eryah/toyvoyagers/voorstellen010.jpg
I know it looks a little bit silly hihi. But we laughed so much about it.

After that i saw a magazine lying on the couch. I asked Eva what kind of magazine it was and she told me it called mijn geheim. In englisch it is my secret. People who want to tell their secret anonymous have the opportunity  to do that in this magazine. I read the most startling news. Cheating people, people who did terrible things. But also very sweet stories about people who find their great love and how they met each other.
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b65/Eryah/toyvoyagers/voorstellen012.jpg

Eva wasn't paying attention so suddenly i saw my change and hide myself in a closet in the kitchen. After a few seconds i heard Eva asking the others where i might be. They all searched for me and Nelly found me at last. I was caught red-handed big times...
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b65/Eryah/toyvoyagers/voorstellen013.jpg

But thank god they all laughed about me because they knew how much i love peanut butter  ;)

Hello!

Today we went to the town centre of Alkmaar. You can see there some beautifull channels, the old city part of Alkmaar, Waagtoren, a house were a bullet still in from World war 2 and many many more. We didn't have enough time to see it all. But maybe later on this week we go back to see more of this.

http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b65/Eryah/toyvoyagers/alkmaar001.jpg
This street is called the Kooltuin. You have a channel here and next to this street you have the red light district...

http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b65/Eryah/toyvoyagers/alkmaar004.jpg
Here i am on a bridge that leads me from the Kooltuin to the old city part. At the end of the channel you can see the Waagtoren.

http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b65/Eryah/toyvoyagers/alkmaar008.jpg
This is the view when you look on the other side of the brigde.

http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b65/Eryah/toyvoyagers/alkmaar011.jpg
This is the old city part. You have many picturesque stores here. They are different from shops we all know like Hennis& Maurtitz etc etc. As example: you got a toy store in this street but al the toys are made of wood. In the past children played with wooden toys in the Netherlands. You can also find many souvenir shops here.

http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b65/Eryah/toyvoyagers/alkmaar014.jpg
Here i am in front of the Waagtoren. In the summer and spring you have a cheesemarket here and you can also find a museum of cheese here. In the past it was a place were travellers who didn't have enough money can sleep for 3 days and nights. Also sick people get nursery here. After that it became the Waaggebouw. This happened in 1583.

Hello!

Today there is a terrible storm in Holland. The expect gusts of wind till 120 kilometre in a hour. Also rain, thunderstorm and hailstones are about to come this way.
They adviced people don't ride on their bike and warning us for the gusts of wind because they can be dangerous. Also for cars it can be dangerous because of the wind. Luckely this morning there weren't problems on the road althought it was busier than normal.
Sounds scary isn't it?

http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b65/Eryah/weeralarm_w220.png
Alkmaar is lying in the red area here by the coast.

http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b65/Eryah/waarschuwing_land_0.gif
Orange means a weather alarm. Red is the highest color of warning so you can see it's violent weather around here.

I'm gonna watch it today throught the window because i'm very curious and Eva promised that she comfort me when i'm scared. She said that we stay home all day long and that inside the house nothing can happened to us.

Hello!

I just wanna let you know that i'm looking forward to tomorrow. I'm gonna meet my new host mom tomorrow and saturday she take me with her to her home. Eva told me a lot about her because they are best friends so i'm very excited to meet... Lejow!
Tonight Eva and i gonna talk a lot i guess about our time together. I think she is a little bit emotional now i'm leaving. She told me i'm the first TV she ever hosted so i always gonna have a special place in her heart. I'm also a little bit emotional because she is the first one who host me.
But i'm also looking forward to everything i'm gonna do in my trail. And i'm very glad i don't have to travel in a envelope this time. It's really dark in there.
Love you mummy!

Hello!

Eva took us to the Mac Donalds for a goodbye party for me and Nelly. Nelly is leaving this tuesday to the next host.
It was great and i get my very own happy meal. We talked a lot about all the great things we did here.
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b65/Eryah/toyvoyagers/afscheidnellyenchompers001.jpg

After that we went to the petshop because Eva had a little suprise for us. She let us sit together and listen close. She told us that Nelly, Palmeke and i each have to choose our own fish that Eva can put in her aquarium.
We all choose the same one: a dalmatian molly..
When we got home Eva have to let them get used to the aquarium and told us what the next suprise was. She named the fish after us!! So now Nelly, Chompers and Palmeke always gonna be with her :)

The only thing I see is rain, rain, rain, more rain, hailstones, rain, again hailstones .. and the wind is blowing SO hard!!

To make it look a little bit like spring, lejow has put down some spring things at home and at her work.

Hello!
FINALLY!! the sun is shining!! We immediatly went outside!
As I told you before, the place where Lejow lives (het Westland) is famous in Holland, it is called the Glas City, because a lot of things (like vegetables, flowers and plants) grow here in glas warehouses!
Because of the weather thats almost always bad here, it can't grow outside. In the glas warehouses, it's always hot and there are special lamps to help everything grow!

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y68/sweetangelleonie/chomperskassen2.jpg
Here are two kinds of them!

We also went to see the Church of Poeldijk, unfortunately it was closed.
So I made beautiful pictures at the outside  :p

Lejow is living in a flat, on the 4th floor. The view is marvolous!!!!!

Hello!

We had such an exciting evening yesterday.. and it even went on today..
Lejow is going to school in the evenings to become a teacher.. Yesterday she had an important exam to make.
It started with a ENORMOUS traffic-jam. Lejow had never seen it SO busy on the way to her school.

After calling the school that she was coming to late, there came smoke out of Lejows car!!!
The heat of the engine was to high. She immediatly turned the car on the side of the road. Were 2 nice police man came to help her, to push her to a parking place.

From that place, Lejow runnnn to the train, to go to school anyway. Unfortunate she was 10 minutes late, and school didn't want to let her in anymore..
Lejow was soo angry! Now she has to write a letter to the Exam commission if she can make the test at another time..

Wel ok, that was that. But the car was still standige somewhere on a parking place and needed to come home.
So today we maked a big trip!

first we went by bus and train to come to the car
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y68/sweetangelleonie/chomperswachten.jpg
Waiting for the bus... look how nice the sun was shining!

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y68/sweetangelleonie/chompersbus.jpg
the busstop, it says the time that the busses are ariving.
Dutch is a difficult language!

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y68/sweetangelleonie/chompersinbus.jpg
sitting in the bus..

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y68/sweetangelleonie/indebus.jpg
heellloo!

Finally after a 50 minutes trip we arrived at the car. It was stil standing safe :D

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y68/sweetangelleonie/chompersauto2.jpg

But then we had to wait another 45 minutes for a man of tha ANWB to come (thats a service where you can register in to, when youre car breaks down, they come and visit you for free and try to repair it. If that is not an option the bring you and the car to the nearest garage!)
The man was very kind
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y68/sweetangelleonie/chompersanwb.jpg
his car!

He made an temporarly fix to Lejows car. So we can drive home. Back home again, Lejow brought her car to her own garage.. Now it is waiting when its fixed!
The garage said that the switch to turn the aerator is broken, lucky that costs not to much :D

Now we are going to sleep we are tiiired!
Nighty-night

Hallo Mummy,
I arrived in Remscheid today.

There were two other ToyVoyagers who helped me out of my envelope. They looked as if they came from a party. They told me that my new host's daughter is celebrating her 16th birthday today. Angus and Mooney even had a little present for her.

My host, Katja, told me that she has a new DSL-contract and it would start just today. Maybe there are two or three days without internet access, so she made my first update immediately.

It's really great to arrive at someone's birthday.

today we visited the fun fair. I still was a little bit tired from my journey but the music was so loud that I got wide awake.

Hi Mommy,
today it's my host's birthday. She is now fourty-something years old. In the morning she had to go to work and in the afternoon her family arrived for coffee and cake. They were her parents, her aunt, her sister with her son, her nephew and her own kids.

We all had cake. Katja made an applecake with amaretto and she bought a strawberry-torte. Too late she realised  that the torte was a really low-fat-thing. It tasted really like there was missing some cream. But the torte was eaten up either.

Later we opened a bottle of sparkling wine and the presents were opened. From her children she got a funny candle that looks like a glass of beer. It is a real beer glass with a jelly candle in it.

From her sister she got a nice heart made of metal to hang at the ceiling and to light a candle into it.

Here you can see us celebrating.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2114/2455934131_a9cea7b46a.jpg?v=0

For dinner Katja ordered asian food. Everyone could choose what he liked among four different dishes. We had one completely vegetarian, one with baked fisch, one with beef and another with chicken. It was really delicious.

Hi Mommy,

my host told me that she is a member of Germany's biggest association for pet rat keepers. She is an active member who is working for the association's magazine. She also adopts pet rats that are given into an animal rescue or those who has been found when some irresponsible people released them into the wild or left them alone in the apartment when they  moved out like a thiefe in the night.

On Friday two young rat girls will arrive here that has been brought pregnant  into the animal rescue. One of has given birth to the babies on April, 20th and the other one on Katja's birthday. Katja told me that it is better for the rat babies to be raised within a family, so they can get used to be handled. In an animal rescue they have not enough time to handle the rats and to play with them. The rats are crepuscular animals, so they like playing and eating in the late evening. At his time  every animal rescue is closed.

Of course the rat moms need a cage for themselves. Katja has an extra cage for them, but is only has one little door. So it would not be easy to clean the cage and to handle the rats. She cut a larger hole into the grid and made a larger door of an old hamster cage. She also built in a larger door into the cage top.

We helped her .... ähhm.... we played with her tools.

Here you can see us sitting in the cage with the now large doors.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3254/2456758754_fdc246794c.jpg?v=0

I'm curious to see the rat babies.

Hi Mommy,

today nobody has to go to work. We had a really late and really long breakfast.

First we baked some bread rolls.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3185/2456758566_57a6947615.jpg?v=0

Katja seems to like peanut butter. Moony had to keep me from pinching her bread roll with peanut butter.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2139/2455929577_32369564d0.jpg?v=0

But peanut butter was not enough. She put cheese and cherry jam on top of the peanut butter.

Hi Mummy,
today it was really nice and warm outside. In the afternoon Katja, her daughter Alex, Angus, Galaxy Bear and me took a walk. First we went into a little park in front of the police station. We sat on a rocking horse.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3201/2464830954_68c1c56151.jpg?v=0

Then we went into the muncipal park. This is the observatory.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2224/2463998411_3e168cedd1.jpg?v=0

Here you can see more of the park.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2037/2464831194_52b88fffa4.jpg?v=0

We went through an old district called „Hasten“. Here are many nice old houses.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2135/2464831474_18904fbdc5.jpg?v=0

Here you can see a famous company, Keiper. They are building bucket seats and racing-style seats for mainstream manufacturers.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2104/2463998843_7a1a67528a.jpg?v=0

We came to a district called “Morsbachtal”. Here the creek Morsbach is running. In this district the first industrial settlements took place long ago. Along the creek tools were made, in the early centuries of industrial settlement the fabrics were run by water wheels.

Here we are all sitting on the balustrade of a bridge running across the creek.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3150/2463999189_9aacc6f35e.jpg?v=0

From here you can walk into forrest and follow the route along the historical “Gelpetal”. The river Gelpe is flowing through the valley, coming from Wuppertal. Here you can find an old sledgehammer which is now a museum. Around the hammer some beautiful old houses remained.

On this card the course of the river Gelpe is shown with its historical holdovers from industrial companies.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3287/2463999537_0236e3f748.jpg?v=0

We were sitting on the edge of a little standpipe. On the picture you cannot see the water flowing, but we all got a little bit wet. But that doesn’t matter because it was so warm.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3123/2463999431_a52e69e89c.jpg?v=0

On this plate the history of the company that you can see in the background, is explained. This plate belongs to a serie of such plates along a special trail along the creek and its industrial culture.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3198/2464832752_eccda75073.jpg?v=0

We rested on a bench in the sun.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2014/2464000205_3f42a5e966.jpg?v=0

We found a rock that was worked into the shape of an easy chair. Alex enjoyed the sun again and we did also.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2012/2464832856_4a2ff3664a.jpg?v=0

On our way back home we walked along the “Werkzeugtrasse”, the route of tools. This is a lane built on an abandoned railway track. Along this route you can find many signs of local industrial companys who sponsored this lane. This is a bench made of a huge screw clamp.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3248/2464000425_76618035f8.jpg?v=0

We went through the muncipal park again, along a pond with ducks. You can also find goldfish and several sorts of turtels who were released into the wild by their former owners.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2376/2464833054_09b09b12cb.jpg?v=0

I am very tired now. We had pasta for dinner. I will go to bed early after I took a last glance to the rat babies.

Hi Mummy,
today Katja took us with her when she went to the post office.

She showed us the town centre with the shops. She also took Galaxy Bear with her because Alex has to learn for school.

Here you can see some pictures of the pedestrian area.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3291/2468959884_dda5d4bc6b.jpg?v=0

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2400/2468136773_6a3de67562.jpg?v=0

These large forcepses are marking the entrance to the pedestrian area.

http://farm1.static.flickr.com/198/2468945412_ab82fd837f.jpg?v=0

Here you can see the town hall. Unfortunately the tower has a scaffold, but it will be taken away soon.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3133/2468960046_7f2edc1cce.jpg?v=0

When we were back at home we relaxed in the midday sun in the kitchen window.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2173/2468965642_4766c6f378.jpg?v=0

In the meantime Katja made coffee. She wanted to read today's newspaper and eat a doghnut. It's called "Berliner Ballen" here, it is the same dough but it does not have a hole but it is filled with jam.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2152/2468137085_56abafb957.jpg?v=0

I wanted to see more and I looked out of the living room window.

In this direction you can see about 100 km when the sky is very clear, without clouds or dust.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3125/2468137181_a918abe8cd.jpg?v=0

This is the view to the other side. I like it with all those trees.

Hi Mummy.
today we visited a flea market in the town. It is held every year on Pentecost, on Sunday and Monday here. Katja wanted to look for a pot to make fruit in rum, it is called "Rumtopf" here, as well the pot as the result of putting rum and fruits together.

She really found one. She also bought a bowl made of ceramics with a large sunflower painted inside.

Her daughter Alex bought shoes. I watched her choosind shoes. She bought white shoes for her new dress.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3155/2483584298_3a8715d2b0.jpg?v=0

But now let's have a look at the scenery:

Katja also bought two dvd's.

Here you can see what we bought today.

Hi Mummy,
yesterday in the evening it started raining like hell. We are living in the attic storey here and enormous raindrops fell onto the windows in the ramp. Today in the morning there was still a little bit rain but at noon the sun was shining again.

Katja met her friend Kerstin to take a long walk. Of course Angus and me went with them. We drove to Solingen-Höhrath to walk around the "Sengbach-Talsperre". This is a water reservoir dam and you are not allowed to walk close to the water. The walking path goes uphill and downhill around the lake and from some points you have a stunning view onto the dam.

We parked the car close to some stables. On many paddocks we saw horses.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2197/2497857870_10382aa124.jpg?v=0

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2420/2497029825_b9f800b6d0.jpg?v=0

On our way to the dam we came along  this funny fence. The owner had fastened small wooden boards to the fence. On these boards he put real shoes in which plants are growing. Katja told us that these shoes are standing there for years already.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3175/2497030047_ca0c4c0de8.jpg?v=0

This sign also is fastened to the fence.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3146/2497030007_75f04ded4d.jpg?v=0

We went into the forrest. In the background you can see "Schloss Burg", a medieval castle built in 12th century.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2191/2497858324_4b21b3f5a5.jpg?v=0

We reached the dam. The sign explains to you that the dam contains drinking water and what you are allowed to do here, better what you are forbidden to do.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3115/2497030399_facd68214a.jpg?v=0

This is the concrete dam.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2400/2497030535_e3ebf374ec.jpg?v=0

The dam is one of the oldes dams in Germany. It was built from 1900 until 1903.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3039/2497030637_cb606a8ef5.jpg?v=0

We made our way around the lake. The path went uphill and downhill. Sometimes we could not see the lake, but then the view was beautiful.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2032/2497858938_0238a9b454.jpg?v=0

This is a motorway bridge.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3111/2497858966_c809d37810.jpg?v=0

On our way back to the car we saw this beautiful blooming bush. It is called "snowball" here, do you know this plant also?

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3034/2497030841_8d69ef9630.jpg?v=0

We walked for almost three hours! Back home we tried to measure the walked distance with google earth. It must have been about 10 - 12 km.

We are all tired now,

good night

Hi Mummy,
today we made Lamingtons, an Australian cake. Katja said that some mentors of TVs talked in the forum about Lamingtons. She was curious about Australian cake so she decided to try it out.

Tomorrow her nephew is celebrating his birthday. His birthday was last week. He was on vacation with his parents then so the party will be tomorrow. We will take some of the Lamingtons to the party.

Katja didn't make photos when we prepared the dough because she had to recharche the camera's batteries first. They were ready when the cake was also ready.

We made most of the cake with coconut like it's written in the receipe. Katja's brother-in-law does not like coconut so we made some pieces with chocolate granules. I'm sure they taste good also. Those with coconut are delicous and very moist.

Hi Mummy,

today we went  to Lennep, another district of Remscheid, to visit Katja’s nephew Lucas and his parents. Lucas was celebrating his ninth birthday. Lucas’ parents are Katja’s sister and her brother-in-law. They live in a nice flat in an old house. Because of the nice weather they decided to let the party take place in the garden.

Galaxy Bear went with us because his host, Katja’s daughter, had to join a soccer training in the afternoon. She arrived at the party at dinner time. So Galaxy Bear was able to enjoy the nice weather in the garden.

On our way to Lennep we had to pick up an envelope from the post office. Inside the envelope something was crawling and talking. The envelope was sent from Finland, so it only could be the adopted girlie bear. We told he to be patient for a few minutes. First we went to the flat of Katja’s aunt because the two of them wanted to drive to Lennep with her aunt’s car.

On the balcony many flowers were blooming.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2164/2517289176_62a480168a.jpg?v=0

When we arrived in Lennep we first wished Lucas a happy birthday, he got his presents and then we helped the little girlie bear to get out of her envelope. She was carrying a letter to Katja with her. She was very glad to be welcomed to nice.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2233/2516467517_e44af88246.jpg?v=0

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2061/2516467619_642e8511d6.jpg?v=0

We were very hungry, it was good the the table was ready for coffee and cake. Katja’s sister made a cheese cake and nut wedges, Katja brought the lamingtons we made the day before.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2018/2516467645_4ba492e266.jpg?v=0

Katja’s sister had prepared a strawberry punch. Therefore you need strawberries cut in pieces with a little bit of sugar. This has to draw through for an hour or two. Then you have to put the fruits into a large bowl and then you add a bottle of white wine and a bottle of sparkling wine. It was delicious and very refreshing.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2253/2516467683_f9bcfaa723.jpg?v=0

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3142/2516467721_254f399bf5.jpg?v=0

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2242/2517289142_49b43b3bf5.jpg?v=0

The strawberry punch had a funny effect on Galaxy Bear and me. We played at the football table with Lucas and his Daddy, but I’m afraid we did not choose the correct position. When Lucas and his Daddy moved the bars with the little players we flew into the air.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3265/2516468097_c33b4b532f.jpg?v=0

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2151/2516468157_d99759da9c.jpg?v=0

It was very funny. Katja murmured something about little bears and puppies and alcohol. Alcohol? Ahh… the strawberry punch ……

To calm down we rested on the water barrel in the sun. Galaxy bear took a walk through the garden to watch the flowers

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2074/2517289542_f4249d8624.jpg?v=0

Later we played basket ball.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2228/2516468219_025c3ca714.jpg?v=0

After dinner we sat and talked. Katja’s sister had a book which explaines first names. We all looked for a name for the girlie bear. We found several nice names and we could not decide which one to take. Katja said she would check later if any of the names were already placed for other ToyVoyagers. The bear’s name is now Finja.

Katja’s brother-in-law drove us home. We were very tired and we almost fell asleep in the car.

Hi mum!

I arrived in the Netherlands today!

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF3557.jpg

Marjolein just came back from the citycentre with LiLA Bear but she said she is going to show me the city real soon!

Nick, LiLA Bear, Pingu and Roots Bear welcomed me in Den Bosch as the Dutch simply call 's-Hertogenbosch.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF3560.jpg

Marjolein was very happy with the cool card I brought here from  Remscheid!

Dear mum,

I went to see the Dutch national footballteam today!! In the footballstadium of PSV Eindhoven in Eindhoven. The match was between Holland and Denmark. It was so cool!

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF3564.jpg

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF3595.jpg

Before the match, there was a giant toy on the field! He had a drum with 'Dutchy' on it. Marjolein told me this is the mascotte of the Dutch team. I said he should also travel but Marjolein doubts he will fit into an envelop. She told me a little secret: there is actually in man inside that lionssuit!

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF3592.jpg

But then the match began. First it was time for the national anthems. The Dutch anthem is called the 'Wilhelmus' named after Willem I, king of the Netherlands in the 16th century. The song has 15 verses but they only sing one at the footballmatches. Most of the Dutch only know this verse.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF3615.jpg

That's the goalkeeper of the Netherlands, Edwin van der Sar, on the big screen.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF3624.jpg

And they're off!

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF3626.jpg

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF3632.jpg

Do you see all the people nicely dressed in orange? Orange is the Dutch national colour. This is because their royalty's (queen Beatrix and family) are called Oranje (orange in Dutch).

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF3635.jpg

Rafael van der Vaart (number 23, footballer of HSV, in Germany) took a cornerkick for Holland.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF3638.jpg

And Holland scored!!

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF3646.jpg

I was so excited! Do you see me partying??

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF3651.jpg

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF3653.jpg

So when the second half of the match began, it was 1-0 for Holland.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF3671.jpg

But then Denmark got dangerous!

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF3674.jpg

O no! Denmark scored!!

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF3676.jpg

And that was the end of the match. The first half was very good, but the second half the Dutch team played sloppy and they let Denmark make a goal. I hope they will do better at the European Championship next month! This game was just for practice.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF3679.jpg

The stadion of PSV Eindhoven is a very beautiful stadium, also on the outside. It's called 'Philips Stadion' because Philips is their sponsor. Philips is a factory that makes lamps and other electric stuff. Eindhoven is therefore also called the 'Lichtstad' translated something like The city of Light. That sounds beautiful doesn't it?

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF3681.jpg

Miss you! Love Chompers

Hi mummy!!

We went to the biggest Bingo of Holland today! There where lots of Dutch singers and Marjolein and Kasper also won something! They both won a replica of the t-shirt the Dutch national team whore during the World Championship of 1974! It was so cool!

This all happened in the footballstadium of the club Vitesse, the Gelredome, in Arnhem (or Arnheim in German). It didn't really look like a stadium, like the Philips Stadion. But that's because the Gelredome was also built for things like performances of big artists and of course superbingo's hihi.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF3730.jpg

It was really big and there where about 36000 people inside!

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF3682.jpg

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF3683.jpg

Gerard Joling, who is a famous Dutch singer, presented it. He looks a bit weird in is golden suit but Marjolein said that's because he is gay.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF3684.jpg

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF3685.jpg

Jan Smit also performed. He is from Volendam and he has is own real life soap. He has been a famous singer since he was very small and he sang a song for his grandmother. Marjolein has got one cd of him and she thinks he's cute. O and she has some underpants that say: Mrs Smit, as if she is Jan's wife haha. Marjolein got them from Kasper, he is a bit weird too.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF3689.jpg

Politicus Agnes Kant was also on the party. That is because the goal of the Bingo was to raise money for playgrounds for Dutch children. Agnes Kant also wants more playgrounds.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF3692.jpg

And of course was Rene Froger singing on stage! He also sings in English so I could finally understand some of the songs!

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF3694.jpg

I filled in the Bingocards for Marjolein.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF3702.jpg

The biggest act was Frans Bauer! All Dutch people love him because they think he is so normal. The Dutch don't really like it when people are to drama. Frans did kidnap this child on stage but she seems to enjoy herself.

The Bingo was also the final for a program called 'Kinderen zingen met Sterren', which means Children sing with Stars. There where 4 teams on stage. The team that sang with the duo Nick and Simon from Volendam won.

Hi mum,

Because the Dutch footballteam played their first match for the European Cup (against Italy) yesterday (Holland won with 3-0!!) we decided to play some ToyVoyagersfootball!

I was in the team with Davy.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF3764.jpg

Davy attacked!

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF3765.jpg

He tried to score... But Pingu got the ball. :(

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF3766.jpg

And then they started attacking! Nick played the ball to Roots, Roots played it back to Nick. Nick tried to score...

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF3767.jpg

And he scored.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF3768.jpg

So my team lost. But now I can't write anymore because I have to get back to some more footballmatches! We are going to win this time!

Dear mum,

I went to the zoo today! It was a zoo in Rotterdam called Diergaarde Blijdorp.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF3776.jpg

Pingu immediately ran to his penguin brothers.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF3778.jpg

But I went looking some doglike animals. And I found the Prairie Dogs!

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF3817.jpg

I took some grass to get him to notice me.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF3819.jpg

He looked at me, a bit angry. He said: 'You are no prairie dog! What kind of weird animal are you?' I said I was a REAL dog.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF3821.jpg

Oops, I shouldn't have said that, now I made him really mad! Let's run away!

Hi mum,

I ate some real Dutch food today: herring and stroopwafels. The call herring, when you eat it like this Hollandse Nieuwe. It doesn't look very yummie, but it actually was! They eat the herring not with knives and forks but they bite it out of the sky! Weird Dutch people ;)

Dear mummy,

I went with Marjolein to Groningen, her birthtown. She celebrated her 22th birthday there, with her parents. I met her family and her parents pets. They live in a suburb called Lewenborg. In the old days this was farmland, which you can still see, because of the farm still in Lewenborg. And there is some farmland but sheep now eat grass here.

After a long trainride from Den Bosch to Groningen. This is about two and a half hour.

Marjolein parents' house looks like this:

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF4053.jpg

I met the pets. This is the cat called Dribbel. She didn't really wanted to take a picture with me but I did it anyway haha.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF4039.jpg

And the had a real dog! Not like the mean prairie dogs, but a real dog! A real old dog also, she is about 13 years old and called Amber.

Dear mum,

In the province of Groningen, the village Warffum is every year an international dance-festival called Op Roakeldais. This is in the dialect of Groningen and means something like 'hoping for the best'.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF4059.jpg

People from all over the world come to Warffum for this festival that takes about a week. Dancegroups from for example Mali in Africa:

Hello,

In Nieuweschans, in the province Groningen, was a very cool festival today. It was called Celtic Midsummer Festival (in Dutch:Keltisch Midzomer Festival).

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF4298.jpg

It was so cool! Lots of people where dressed up.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF42831.jpg

Asterix and Obelix where even there! There was a battle between the grown-ups and the children and the children won everytime! Of course I was cheering for them :D

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF4296.jpg

We had beers and spare ribs.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF42961.jpg

And we danced to Celtic music from the Dutch band Rapalje. And the German band called Faun.

Marjolein coloured a candle and her boyfriend Kasper got a very cool stone mug with 'Rapalje' on it! They also bought special tea. Marjolein's mother bought lots of juwelery and she flirted with Obelix! He didn't have a shirt on and was getting very red in the sun. So she offered him some sunblock! ;)

I had a great time!!

Florence is the place to be, lalala :D Florence has to be the most beautiful city I have ever seen! Did you know that every year lots of tourists end up in the hospital because they are overwhelmed by the beauty of Florence? It's called the Stendhal Syndrome after this man called Stendhal. He is the first person of who it is known he fainted after seeing Florence. His heart stopped pumping and he coulnd't breath. Thank God none of us had these problems but it is such a beautiful city!

Saint George (from Saint George and the Dragon) made by Donatello

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF4547.jpg

The tourguide of the trip told us a story about this George. Donatello made this statue and showed it to his master. He asked him if there is anything wrong with George. His master answered: Yes there is something wrong. Donatello of course wanted to know what this was. But his master simply answered: I won't tell you, you have to find out yourself. Donatello wondered and wondered, he looked at George and he could not find anything wrong with him. He got ill of these doubts. Donatello got so sick, that at one point he was actually dying. On his deathbed he asked his master: Please tell me, what was wrong with Saint George? His master said: He doesn't breath. He looks so real, if he breathed he could just walk towards us. And then Donatello could die in peace.
It's a wonderfull story, but in reality Donatello lived happily ever after, after making this statue. But it's a good story :)

David (waiting for Goliath) made by Michelangelo.

This is not the original David, that one is savely in a museum.
It stands on the Piazza Della Signoria.

The fifth day was a bit of a travelingday. We went to Siena first, but after that to our new hotel in Fiuggi. First Siena. This is a very old city from the Dark Ages.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF4631.jpg

It has a very famous square: Piazza Del Campo. The people of Siena call it the most beautiful piazza of the world. It has the shape of a shell.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF4637.jpg

Every year this Piazza turns into a racecourse. When the 'Palio' (horseraces) takes place, every person from Sienna goes to the Piazza. They stand on the inside of the square and the horses run on the outside.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF4639.jpg

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF4663.jpg

Every part of the city have a horse in the race. And it doesn't matter if the jockey makes it to the finishline, when the horse makes it, the horse wins. Sometimes accidents happen because the jockey doesn't ride the horse on a sadle.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF4672.jpg

We walked around the city for a bit and we had some really good pizza! Funghipizza (mushrooms) on the Piazza Del Campo.

Time to visit Rome! Or Roma as it's called in Italy. The bus brought us to Rome. We took the subway to go to the centre of the city. Went we got back at the streetlevel this is the first thing I saw:

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF4760.jpg

The Colosseum! The Colosseum is soooo big!! It was built between the year 70 and 80 AD. The use was an amphitheatre. You could watch fights between lions, between lions and gladiators or just between gladiotors. One way or another, people would die. When the Colosseum was opened the Romans celebrated the opening with a party of 100 days. In these days everyone was welcome in the Colosseum. Everyday the fights and other events happened during the entire day. Romans where very ahead of their time: they already had fast food! You could buy it at stands near the Colosseum. Bread and wine, that sort of stuff.

The second day in Rome! This day we had some time off in the morning and in the afternoon we went to the St. Peter's Basilica in Vatican City.

On our free time we found a cool Toy Store called Al Sogno.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF4980.jpg

They had lots of very cool toys.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF4979.jpg

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF4975.jpg

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF4978.jpg

Too bad Marjolein found the toys way to expensive. But they seem to have a really good life in the store and they will be bought by rich people who will give them a good life :)

We had pizza again today! After walking around we went to Vatican City to see the St. Peter!

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF4966.jpg

On this photo I am standing on the Bridge of Angels.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF4932.jpg

The view from the balcony. This is the way the pope always looks at the St. Peter's Square.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF4992.jpg

The guard of the St. Peter are Swiss Guards. They have to be realy Swiss boys from between 18 and 25 and not married. And of course Catholic.

The inside of the St. Peter's Basilica

Pompei is a town from the first century after the birth of Christ. It was built by Romans.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF5037.jpg

Years (about 15 years) before the eruption of Mount Vesuvius, the town was destroyed by on earthquake. The inhabitants of Pompei didn't know it then, but this was just Mount Vesuvius warning them for the eruption.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF5038.jpg

There where other warnings. The water dissaperead. Because of the hot lava the Vesuvius was making the water turned into steam.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF5112.jpg

In Pompei lived about 20.000 people. The went to the store

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF5088.jpg

To the bakery

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF5105.jpg

Or to a bathhouse

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF5081.jpg

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF5076.jpg

Or the just sat in there own garden, for example in the House with the Little Fountain

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF5094.jpg

But on 24 August 79 the time stopped. The day turned into night and this lasted for three days. People didn't know what was happening. Some died because they breathed in the ashes of the mountain. Some died because of rocks flying around. Most people died right at the spot.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF5071.jpg

Almost everybody died in 79. But the city was preserved really well because of the ashes of Mount Vesuvius. So that's good for us, we can learn a lot, about the way people lived and what happened that day. We can go back in time and walk around like the people of Pompei used to do.

On our way our next hotel near Venice, we had a stop in Ravenna. In 409 AD Ravenna became the capital city of the Roman Empire. Julius Caesar gathered his troups here. This was in 49 BC.

We went to see a early Christian church famous of mosaics. The Basilica of San Vitale.

Time to see Venice! Venice is by many called the most beautiful city in the world. We went here by boat. You could also go there by car but according to our guide you are suppose to go by boat.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF5238.jpg

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF5230.jpg

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF5408.jpg

We set foot on the land and went into the harbour of Venice after a trip of about half an hour.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF5401.jpg

On our way to Piazza San Marco we saw The Bridge of Sighs. This bridge passes over the Rio di Palazzo and connects the old prisons to the interrogation rooms of the Doge's Palace. It got it's name because the prisoner got a last look at Venice and their loved one from the brigde before there inprisonment or death and used to sigh there.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF5374.jpg

On the Piazza San Marco stands the Basilica di San Marco a Venezia.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF5368.jpg

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF5253.jpg

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF5357.jpg

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF5259.jpg

There also stand two poles on the Piazza San Marco. No inhabitant of Venice would ever stand between those two poles, because people used to get excecuted their. Gulp!

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF5250.jpg

On the left pole stands a lion. The lion is the animal of Venice.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF5251.jpg

We went for a walk around the city. The first thing we saw was the second most famous bridge, the Rialto Bridge. It's the oldest bridge in the city and build in 1181.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF5286.jpg

We had the most wonderfull view from the bridge!

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF5289.jpg

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF5292.jpg

We walked on and saw some beautiful sights.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF5271.jpg

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF5300.jpg

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF5323.jpg

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF5330.jpg

Then we came across the only wooden bridge in the city: Accademia Bridge.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF5336.jpg

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF5341.jpg

But sightseeing was the only thing we did, we also did some shopping! We saw a great toystore again, this was a Disney store!

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF5285.jpg

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF5284.jpg

Venice stretches over 118 little islands. It has a population of 271.251 people. People have lived on the islands for centuries but it is known as a city since the ninth century.

Hi mummy!

We went to visit Marjolein's boyfriend at his internship at the footballclub PSV Eindhoven! We weren't allowed to make photo's inside the stadium but we made some cool shots in front of the stadium. Maybe you remember I went inside the stadium in May?!

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF6285.jpg

The guy on the photo is Coen Dillen. He was a famous footballplayer for PSV. He played at the club in the fourties, fifties and sixties. He stands in front of the stadium.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF6280.jpg

On the background is the entry-gate to the stadium. You can see the sign of PSV and the words: 'Eendracht maakt macht'. This means something like: United we stand stronger.

In the night we went to a comedy club. This was in the Verkadefabriek in 's-Hertogenbosch. The Verkadefabriek is a former factory of the brand Verkade, who make cookies! Too bad they didn't had any more cookies in the factory hihi.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF6448.jpg

The stand-up comedyshow was very cool! Altough I didn't know the comedians, they where very funny. Yes, I am learning a lot of Dutch here with Marjolein!

Across the road of the Verkadefabriek was yet another former factory. This is a sigaretfactory of Willem II.

But wait! It was very cool in Leer, but Marjolein convinced her mother to also go to Oldenburg!

This is where they always park.

Look it this market, doesn't it look much cooler than the one in Leer? It's certainly much bigger.

And as we walked in Oldenburg, it turned dark and all the christmaslights went on, doesn't it looks beautiful?

We ate a lot and bought a lot and had so much fun!

Hi!

I visited a Celtic MidWinter Festival! Just half a year ago I went to the Midsummer festival! This festival is called Yule in Celtic.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF6835.jpg

They had lots of meat like Spare Ribs just like the last time!

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF6839.jpg

There where guys playing bagpipes.

And you could also buy clothes, mostly Celtic and Gothic.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c162/marjoleinaneth/DSCF6851.jpg

And the Dutch band Rapalje had a show again. They sang Celtic music in English, Irish and even Dutch. Even the Dutch dialect from Groningen called Groningen. It was really cool!

Gilbert was fan of the penguins, but they wouldn't look at him! How sad!

We also went to a part called the Waterfactory. They tought us all sorts of stuff about water and what happens in between it being in lakes an rivers and people drinking it.

Goodday!

Today we had a cultural day; we went to the Museum of Groningen. They had an exibition of paintings from J. W. Waterhouse. He was a painter who lived in the end of the 19th and the begin of the 20th century. The exibition was called Enchanted by Women. And we where allowed to take photo's inside the museum, check it out!

This painting is called The Lady of Shallott. She is a woman from the legend of King Arthur. Waterhouse mostly painted women from legend and mythic stories. And Marjolein loves that kind of stories, so we didn't get out of the Museum soon haha.

This painting is also called The Lady of Shallott. This is Waterhouse is most famous painting and it has hung in the Tate Gallery in London for over a century but it made a trip to Groningen, that's so special!

I really liked this painting. It's called 'Lamia (on her knees)' and was painted in 1905.

On the website about J. W. Waterhouse this story is written beneath:

If questioning would make us wise no eyes would ever gaze in eyes; if all our tale were told in speech no mouths would wonder each to each.

Were spirits free from mortal mesh and love not bound in hearts of flesh no aching breasts would yearn te meet and find their ecstasy complete.

For who is there that lives and knows the secret powers by which he grows?
Were knowledge all, what were our need to thrill and faint and sweetly bleed?

Then seek not, the "if" and "Why" I love you now untill I die. For I must love because I live And life in me is what you give. - Bill Archer
