Hi, Mom!
Thanks Giving Day at The Kirkpatrick's was nice. We didn't come out much because Kristy's Nephew, Nicky was entranced with us and he's too little to play with us. Her niece, Kaylee guarded us from him when we were out.

Oh, oh!  That was a quick trip, I have arrived at a new host's home.  I must arrange my mane before they help me out of my conveyance.  Don't want them to know I've been sleeping all the way. Never mind, they have a pet cat, they know how much we lions laze around.  So, I am relaxed knowing they already hosted a lion here:  the magnificent Aslan and, still they want to host another!  Especially a lion!  :)

See ya when they get it together to do the opening ceremony.

Bye bye,

Love ya, Mom,

Hi Mom and all my nice readers,

Geez, the most dangerous part of my trip was getting out of my travel coach. Noodles helped me out.  He is a young snowy owl trainee host/greeter; it was his first time cutting with real scissors; I thought I would lose a lock of my beautiful mane.  I did get out okay, Noodles's mom helped him.

There is one other guest here, Pitzelpatz, a pirate bear from Germany who took a bath when he arrived here.  Some TVs are staying home between trips: besides Noodles there are Cheerio, DuDette and DuDu.  My host reassured me that I won't have to walk the plank to take a bath as we lions keep ourselves clean.  That was a big relief!  Phew!

Then after a big meal, because you know we lions get very hungry traveling, we went for a walk and came upon a huge hat displayed on a human-sized mannequin in the Hyatt Regency Hotel lobby.  It is called “San Francisco Skyline” from the “Beach Blanket Babylon” musical which has been playing since 1974!  It weighs 350 pounds and is all silver colored; it was created in 1999 in honor of the 25th anniversary of the show; also, we think, because the producer of the show was named Steve Silver (1944-1995).

Seeing the skyline hat helped to orient me; now I know some of the landmarks of the city:  The Pyramid building, the Ferry Building, City Hall, the Golden Gate Bridge, Chinatown, Coit Tower and the Hyatt Regency itself.  Mom, I saw a pyramid (-shaped building)!  he he  Does it count toward my life mission, “view Pyramids?”

We are planning a big trip out of the city soon.  :)  Hi Kristy, miss ya!

Bye,

Okuma

Hi Mom and everyone,

We started out at the Emeryville, California train station.  Emeryville is across the Bay Bridge from San Francisco near Berkeley.  Where did we go?  All six of us TVs went along and met up with two more!  A ToyVoyager meetup!

There was some nice scenery along the railroad route as well as some yucky stuff like automobile graveyards, graffiti on concrete walls, and junkyards but also a cool ship mothball fleet, parts of San Francisco and San Pablo Bays, several bridges, some nice farms and animals, vineyards, walnut groves, a university, etc.  This area is known for its natural marshland with lots of birds.  Here we are sitting backwards watching the scenery we just passed.  We liked the shots of the marshland.

San Pablo Bay

Will show you more of our trip in the next update.

See ya later,

We detrained at Sacramento, the capital of California.

Then we toured the Capitol building and met kcrawfish and her ToyVoyager guests, Tuli and Little R2.  It was a nice relaxing lunch and ToyVoyager Meetup.

We all walked around Old Sacramento which has a lot of museums and preserved buildings from the wild west days.  We liked the raised wooden sidewalks.

Then we went galloping on a horse statue.  Sacramento was one end of the famous Pony Express mail delivery service.  The other end was Saint Joseph, Missouri almost 2,000 miles away.  Telegraph communication was available at St. Joseph for communication toward the east.  Mail addressed beyond Sacramento was sent by steamboat on the Sacramento River.  That's how we would have received mail in San Francisco in 1860!

There were a few glitches on the trip but please don’t tell anyone.  He he, we got out of jail quickly.

We will go visit again as there is so much more to see.

Bye for now,

Okuma

Hi Mom,

It is raining here and my host has been a bit crabby but she cheered up a lot after doing her taxes.  ;)  She sat at her desk for two whole days.   We spent those days playing with the cat.  Hey, I'm a cat, too!  That cat likes to eat paper, ha ha, "my cat ate the tax receipts".

Here are photos of the games, which were especially dangerous for DuDette and DuDu who resemble cat toys.  I got to set the ball rolling; it makes lots of noise and brings kitty running. Then we went climbing on the cat scratch pole; I got up there first and perched on top.  Amazingly, Miss Kitty swiped at only the real blue cat toy, and ran away with it.  We all survived unscathed to play another day.  Phew.

Time for a nap,

Hi everyone,

Cheerio took me out to see the neighborhood.  The flowering plum trees bloom in winter.  On the beach we imagined Orkku Orava and Jeremy traveling to Scandinavia by row boat and dreamed of setting out bravely on driftwood.

We got home in time to see the grand finale of the local Chinese New Year Parade on television.  It ends with a LION :) dance, fire crackers, and then out comes the dragon, this year's zodiac animal.

Gung Hay Fat Choy and Happy Valentine's Day.

Hi Mom and my awesome readers :),

My buddy, DuDu, took the afternoon off from the C.T. Mouse Detective Agency to show me around Pioneer Park.  The park is on top of Telegraph Hill and has a 360 degree view of the city and the Bay.  You get there by winding roads and/or staircases.  Some of the streets are just stairs so no cars can go there.  Christopher Columbus was never on the West Coast but a statue of him was donated by the Italian-American community.  Coit Tower is behind him and he looks out over the Bay past a flag that flies 500+ years after his travels, past Alcatraz Island and toward Angel Island which was an immigration station in the old days. He was a HumanVoyager :)

We toured Coit Tower and saw many frescos painted in the 1930s as part of the Works Progress Administration.  The flower harvest reminded me of you, mom; you should have lots of them.  He he, I saw the pyramid building, almost a life mission.  :)  The Golden Gate Bridge was in fog, can you make it out?

On the way home, we stopped at the St. Peter and Paul Church in Washington Square.  Those trees enhance my mane, don’t ya think.  ;)  Joe DiMaggio married his first wife there and was photographed on the stairs with his second wife, Marilyn Monroe, after they married at City Hall.  DuDu and DuDette were married at City Hall, too!  :)

We had so much fun.  DuDu really knows the city!  He wants to show me City Hall next time.  ;)

Happy tulip time, everyone,

Noodles and I went out on some errands today and saw Pitzelpatz off at the Post Office.  Sniff.  :(  After that we took a long stroll and saw a strange landscape.  It turned out to be the lower part of Telegraph Hill.  Back in the Gold Rush days, ships came in loaded with 49ers and supplies.  The ships left here empty so they carved chunks out of this hill for ballast.  Then we wandered through some office parks and ended up at Pier 39 where sea lions were resting and tulips are in bloom.

Bye now, nap time,

Love ya, Mom,

Okuma

ps:  Hope you are doing well, Miss Kate.

Hi Mom,

Noodles and I got so excited when we saw Eska in the mailbox, we jumped in to help her out.  Since we were on our way to walk up to the summit of Russian Hill and then on to Ina Coolbrith Park, we took her along and did the welcoming ceremony on the road, that is, on the stairway.  She shared her candy with us and that gave us enough energy to keep going.

It was nice and warm but wow, so many stairs and paths to walk.  Most of the houses in this neighborhood were destroyed in the earthquake and file of 1906 but one block on Green Street had some that survived, here are two of them, the first one is in an octagon shape which was thought to be healthier, the other is in the Italianate or stick style. InaCoolbrith was a poet.  Her poems aren’t very well known today; here is a sample called “A Perfect Day”, which is a pretty good description of our first day with Eska.

See ya later,

My hosts have discovered the "Monk" TV series.  We watch two episodes on Friday evenings and two more on Sundays.  Adrian Monk lives in San Francisco but most of the show was filmed in Canada and Los Angeles studios.  There were some exterior shots made here and Noodles, EskaCheerio, and I decided to find a few of them.

The first house was made up to look like a museum in the show but today it looks like a wealthy family's residence.  The Palace of Fine Arts can be seen from there, it is another Monk location.  Then we went to anther hill top and saw where Monk crosses the street while the theme song, "It's a Jungle Out There" plays. Then to a flat street in North Beach toward St. Peter & Paul church where Noodles touched all the parking meters.  ;). Then we went up another hill to see the view from Monk's apartment building which has a view of the Bay Bridge, also a Monk location.  The last two photos show us checking out an interactive street art installation. :).

See ya at the next location.

Hi Everyone,

We took some walks around the neighborhood to see a park that has a view of the Golden Gate; a great bench; Mrs. Doubtfire’s house, the Haas-Lilienthal house, and the Spreckles mansion, now occupied by Danielle Steele.

The last is our very favorite place, the playground where we TVs go to conduct secret Toyvoyager Tribe rituals. :)

Squab and I went to see the Golden Gate Bridge today.  It was a real adventure, especially for Squab, considering that the coyotes that like to eat small animals got into the city by walking over this bridge.  We were a little disappointed that the foot trails were closed because of upgrades for the 75th anniversary celebration coming up in May.  We couldn’t go to Fort Point but we did walk onto the bridge a short distance.  One of the two walkways on the bridge is closed so everyone had to use the same one:  people, TVs, bikes, and coyotes.  It was rather cold and very windy so we had to hang onto each other but it didn’t rain until we got off the bus on the way home.  We got home okay, and Squab thanked me for protecting him so that no coyote made a meal out of him.  Phew. ;) Ha ha, he calls himself a chicken Berliner. :)

Hi mom and everyone,

We happened to be in the neighborhood where the Tanner family of “Full House” lived.  The door is now black instead of red but otherwise it looks the same.  A house across the street has a red door; we wonder if it is an homage to that long-running sitcom.  :)  We saw a nice painted lady in the next block; then we stopped and discussed our adventures by a tiled building.

Having fun,

Hi everyone,

He he, Squab and I had afternoon tea where the Tanner Family of “Full House” had a picnic!  It was so much fun acting out the parts.  :). None of these houses was the actual Full House. We saw the real house yesterday on Broderick Street.

Alice Walker lived in one of these painted ladies on Alamo Square during the years that "Full House" was filmed but Alice doesn't live here anymore. ;)  Was she ever part of the storyline?  She could have painted her house purple but we think she didn't.   Her newest book, a memoir, is titled, "The Chicken Chronicles". :). Maybe we can read that; it is about  my dear friend, Squab’s, kind!!  In her Pulitizer-Prize-winning book, "The Color Purple" she addressed each chapter, "Dear God".  Apparently each essay in this new book is addressed to her flock of chickens, so  interesting.  The book description ends with, "for anyone seeking a deeper connection with the natural world, and a celebration of chickens everywhere!". :)

Lots of love and hugs to you, Mom,

Okuma

Lombard Street

Hi everybody,

Squab and I explored the so-called crookedest street in the world and met a lot of out-of-towners ;) as well as a few members of the famous flock of wild parrots that can often be seen, and more often heard, in the trees at the bottom of the block.  The birds didn’t stay long enough to pose with us and, as you can see, the hydrangeas are out of bloom.

The house with blue trim and gold gate once belonged to Pat Montandon who lived there when it became haunted. ;)  We weren’t afraid because we found another entrance on Leavenworth Street; we figure the ghosts came in that way.  Can you find the photo with the other stairway entrance?  We are staying in a building with only one entrance so we are sure the ghosts won’t come in. ;)  We are okay, there is no unusual shaking.

He he, there’s another haunted place nearby, the bell tower of the San Francisco Art Institute.  We will visit the SFAI some other day and see if we pick up any vibes.  We don’t think Achoo is haunting anyone.

We checked a sundial to see what time is was but it was in the shade so we had all the time in the world to play in the flowers at Fay Park.

Love ya unconditionally, Mom,

Okuma

Hi mum,

Hope you are having a wonderful vacation.  Squab and I are in the Outside Lands on a hunting trip.  We are fending for ourselves and sleeping in a tree.  We spent all day hiking by the lake and found plenty of food.  We caught ducks, turtles for soup, iguanas which we think are not native here but there they were right on the path.

When I went to capture some pigeons poor little Squab freaked out saying they are the same as s-q-u-a-b!  He fainted and I gave him CPR.  Then he explained that he is a vegan and cannot eat meat or fowl, not even pigeon eggs.

So then we agreed to forage for fruits, nuts, flowers and vegetables.  We found some big apples, lots of edible flowers, some nuts we think someone left for the squirrels, and some strange green fruit on a tree which gave us tummy aches so we stopped eating that.

Then we bonded over a nasturtium and relaxed in our tree house.

We will let you know if there is any truth to the story of the ghost of Stow Lake.  Ooooh, it will be dark soon but I have a big roar and will protect our little camp.

Testing my bravery,

Your Okuma

Oh Mom!

Last night it was very spooky in the treehouse.  We didn't get much sleep; there was lots of noise, fog, wind, and coyotes howling.  Squab’s feathers were ruffled and my mane stood on end, straight up.  We could hear distant foghorns but miss the sound of cable cars, we are indeed very far from home. Tonight we are moving to the Chinese pavilion because it has better feng shui than the tree.  Feng shui is vital when you are dodging a ghost.  You can see our new house in the upper corner of the fourth photo of yesterday's travelog.  So far, so good.

Hi My Dear Readers,

Daytime here by the lake is paradise.  Squab and I just pick whatever we want to eat off the trees.  We play frisbee, sun ourselves on rocks and move to the warm shade to avoid sunburn.

The weekend is here and we are feasting on human food.  We joined an Earth Day celebration; some picnickers were interested to hear the story of how we are living on our own in the wilderness and especially how we compost and recycle; they welcomed us to eat with them.  :)  Yum, watermelon and potato salad, chips and dip, cole slaw, pie and ah, coffee!

Tonight we will take a walk along the lakeshore and smoke out the ghost of Stow Lake.

Your groovy lion,

Hello again from the Outside Lands,

DuDu gave Squab and me an assignment today.

All of a sudden it started getting dark too early in the day. We wondered if a ghost was tying to get in through the window.  It was like the end of the world.  DuDu sent us outside to take photos.

Don't worry, Mom, we are okay now.

Thanks, Mom, for finding me another nice host in the U.S.  We don't have to fill out a customs form.  When Noodles saw the map where I'm going he wanted to stow away because it's nearer where his species, the snowy owl, nests.   My next host said it is okay, the more the merrier, so we looked at the map with Miss Kitty's help, had a goodbye coffee with the gang and both of us jumped into a travel box.  We are on our way to new adventures.  Uh oh, maybe we do have a stowaway from Stow Lake.

See ya soon,

Look, Mom!
I found this funny coin machine. I'm going to make you a coin!

We said a fond farewell to Priscilla today! She's leaving for my home country of Germany. Safe travels, friend!  :)

Good Morning!

http://i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p481/Jillyfish33/June%202012/minnesota009.jpg

We're going to watch a movie.
What should we pick?

http://i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p481/Jillyfish33/June%202012/minnesota011.jpg

http://i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p481/Jillyfish33/June%202012/minnesota015.jpg

We decided to watch "Pocahontas". What a beautiful princess!

http://i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p481/Jillyfish33/June%202012/minnesota005.jpg

Noodles and I shared a big breakfast bowl of cereal.

http://i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p481/Jillyfish33/June%202012/minnesota001.jpg

Yum Yum! Gobble Gobble! Ahem! Excuse me!

http://i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p481/Jillyfish33/June%202012/minnesota002.jpg

It's a very windy, hot day! We decided to stop at a lake.

http://i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p481/Jillyfish33/June%202012/minnesota021.jpg

I sure do like the wind through my mane!

http://i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p481/Jillyfish33/June%202012/minnesota024.jpg

We all shared a combo pack at Taco Bell for lunch.

http://i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p481/Jillyfish33/June%202012/minnesota028.jpg

Shaunee is being funny on my head.  :p
I'm such a tough lion; I could hold up 20 toy voyagers!

Bye for now, mom!

Hello everyone!

We are taking a day trip to Duluth, Minnesota. It's known as the Twin Port City. I wonder what kinds of things we'll get to see......

Only one way to find out! Let's hop in the car!

http://i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p481/Jillyfish33/July%202012/July2012006.jpg

Host mom lets me sit in her lap. :)
I asked her to make sure I don't go flying out the window; I want a good view..... but the highway sure is fast~!

http://i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p481/Jillyfish33/July%202012/July2012004.jpg

(Three hours later)
We're almost there! :D

http://i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p481/Jillyfish33/July%202012/July2012021.jpg

We stopped at this information center for directions and a bite to eat.

http://i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p481/Jillyfish33/July%202012/July2012026.jpg

Whoa! The view up here is fantastic!

http://i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p481/Jillyfish33/July%202012/July2012030.jpg

Host mom lent me fifty cents to work this strange viewing device.  B)

http://i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p481/Jillyfish33/July%202012/July2012033.jpg

http://i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p481/Jillyfish33/July%202012/July2012034.jpg

Finally we are here in the heart of the city! We go to the edge of Lake Superior in an area called "Canal Park".

http://i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p481/Jillyfish33/July%202012/July2012052.jpg

We're having lunch at Grandma's. Strange name for a restaurant, right? I wonder whose Grandma it really is......  :stare:

http://i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p481/Jillyfish33/July%202012/July2012056.jpg

We rented a funny-looking bike for two and traveled down this scenic pier.

http://i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p481/Jillyfish33/July%202012/July2012087.jpg

http://i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p481/Jillyfish33/July%202012/July2012079.jpg

http://i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p481/Jillyfish33/July%202012/July2012080.jpg

We all got to ride in the big basket in front. Good thing there was room for all of us-- we were quite a large group of TVs.

http://i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p481/Jillyfish33/July%202012/July2012118.jpg

You can see the famous Lift Bridge in the background!

http://i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p481/Jillyfish33/July%202012/July2012119.jpg

http://i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p481/Jillyfish33/July%202012/July2012127.jpg

Noodles, Eloy, and I climbed the platform for a better view. I like Eloy because we are both fearsome cats!

http://i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p481/Jillyfish33/July%202012/July2012115.jpg

http://i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p481/Jillyfish33/July%202012/July2012114.jpg

Group Picture time!

http://i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p481/Jillyfish33/July%202012/July2012100.jpg

http://i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p481/Jillyfish33/July%202012/July2012102.jpg

We stopped in this cute shop. Guess what? I bought a small souvenir for you. Just a little something. :)

http://i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p481/Jillyfish33/July%202012/July2012134.jpg

Look at this cool bridge-- I found it all by myself!

http://i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p481/Jillyfish33/July%202012/July2012145.jpg

Here's one of the large freight ships that just came in.

http://i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p481/Jillyfish33/July%202012/July2012144.jpg

http://i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p481/Jillyfish33/July%202012/July2012142.jpg

They do boat tours here, too! But host mom said it was getting late, and that we'd have to drive awhile more to get to Camp.

http://i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p481/Jillyfish33/July%202012/July2012141.jpg

We're all going to Camp on vacation for a WHOLE week! I hear there's a beach! :D

Bye for now.

Here we are at Camp!  :)
and the beach!  :o

http://i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p481/Jillyfish33/July%202012/July2012152.jpg

What a fantastic day for a swim.

http://i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p481/Jillyfish33/July%202012/July2012165.jpg

I even like it in the shade here. Feels like home to a jungle cat like me!

http://i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p481/Jillyfish33/July%202012/July2012171.jpg

They don't make life jackets in my size, so host mom doesn't let me take this kayak out on the lake.....  but I really want to!  :(

http://i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p481/Jillyfish33/July%202012/July2012170.jpg

Happy Fourth of July, Mom! It's a big deal over here-- being America's Independence day and all. We lit off a bunch of fireworks, but sadly, no pictures!

We are going somewhere fun today! Can you guess where?

http://i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p481/Jillyfish33/homeagain027.jpg

The Mall of America! It's the largest indoor shopping complex in North America.

http://i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p481/Jillyfish33/homeagain028.jpg

Each level of the parking ramp had a State name. We got "Nevada". :)

http://i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p481/Jillyfish33/homeagain034.jpg

Here we are!

http://i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p481/Jillyfish33/homeagain045.jpg

Where should we go first?

http://i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p481/Jillyfish33/homeagain046.jpg

Look, Mum! Lego Land~! :D

http://i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p481/Jillyfish33/homeagain052.jpg

http://i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p481/Jillyfish33/homeagain053.jpg

This is one of the even arenas. There's nothing going on right now......

http://i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p481/Jillyfish33/homeagain055.jpg

Noodles and I shared some Chinese food from Panda Express. Yummy!

http://i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p481/Jillyfish33/homeagain069.jpg

Can you see the Minnesota store in the background?

http://i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p481/Jillyfish33/homeagain074.jpg

http://i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p481/Jillyfish33/homeagain086.jpg

This is my host's favorite spot: the Disney store!

http://i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p481/Jillyfish33/homeagain105.jpg

Look at this funny plushie:

http://i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p481/Jillyfish33/homeagain100.jpg

Whew! Busy day shopping at the MOA. We got home in time to make a pizza for dinner. :)

Aaaand away we go~!

http://i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p481/Jillyfish33/September/TargetField035.jpg

Host mom holds me close as more people get on the train. (Also, she wants to show off her new Twins shirt.)

I feel safer tucked in the bag.

http://i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p481/Jillyfish33/September/TargetField042.jpg

Finally after about 15 mins. on the train-- we have arrived in Minneapolis! What a view~!

http://i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p481/Jillyfish33/September/TargetField046.jpg

I can see the city!

http://i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p481/Jillyfish33/September/TargetField049.jpg

Gettin' off the train!

http://i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p481/Jillyfish33/September/TargetField052.jpg

Bullseye is very happy to be visiting-- this stadium is named after him = "Target Field".

http://i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p481/Jillyfish33/September/TargetField060.jpg

Hey! I've traveled to many of these places! :P

http://i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p481/Jillyfish33/September/TargetField065.jpg

WOW. This stadium is impressive!

http://i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p481/Jillyfish33/September/TargetField066.jpg

I think we found our seats!

http://i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p481/Jillyfish33/September/TargetField087.jpg

http://i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p481/Jillyfish33/September/TargetField088.jpg

Wondering why they are called the "Twins"? It's because of the two cities: Minneapolis and St. Paul. They are so close to one another, so this area is known as the Twin Cities. :)

Players are coming out onto the field to warm up!

It's getting dark, but we walked as high as we could to get a good view.

http://i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p481/Jillyfish33/September/TargetField101.jpg

http://i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p481/Jillyfish33/September/TargetField129.jpg

Yay! Our team won 3-1!
Great job! What a great adventure.

We are having breakfast for dinner! Yum-- I love chocolate chip pancakes (even though they're not meat). It's my host mom's specialty! :)
