Hiiiii Mom!
Hauskaa Vappua! (Happy May Day) I arrived here in Lahti Finland at Friday. Just in time to celebrate May Day. My host Susanna told me just a little bit of Finnish May Day. Celebration starts at 30th of April, but actual May Day is 1st of May. It’s a day of workers and students. There are workers marches almost in every city, and lots of political speeches. Celebration also includes balloons, funny masks, horns and lots and lots of other funny stuff. It’s sometime said, that May Day is only real carnival in Finland. But Susanna is sorry to say, that carnival in Finland often means, that people are drinking too much alcohol and acting stupid. But don’t worry Mom we didn’t drink. Susanna was working at Saturday 30th of April and after that we took quick visit at Lahti market square. In pictures you can see me with balloons and “jumping castle” ( I didn’t go there, I’m too small) . At home we, me and Droopy the Dog (my new friend) had special treats; mead and big donuts and pastries called funnel cakes. I got powdered sugar on my nose, glad I had a napkin. It was our plan to go at market square at Sunday too, but we didn’t and in last picture you can see why. Yes, Mom it’s snowing… and we decided to stay at home. Take Care Mom kisses Wavy Gravy PS: Susanna was very happy from my gifts, but don’t want to put clown nose on, she said she looks funny enough without it. |

Hi Mom!
So sorry, that we haven’t update earlier. My host Susanna has been very busy at work and with her studies. But don’t worry Mom. I haven’t been alone here, while she has been at work. Now I want to introduce you my new friends. In first picture is Droopy the dog. He is the one I celebrated in earlier pictures. He is kind of silent and melancholy fellow, but very friendly and gives me a hug whenever I need one. In second picture is Mr Big Bear or Mr Old Bear. And he really is big and old. He has many fascinating stories about old times. And then last, but not least Veskari the cat. Veskari means goal keeper (Susanna’s boyfriend plays ice hockey, so you can guess, where the name comes from). Veskari is very playful sometimes too playful, but my host keep good eye on us while we are playing, just to make sure. Tomorrow we will travel to Seinäjoki (where Susanna goes to study) for few days. I’m sure we will have lots of fun, and take nice pictures. Take Care Mom! Your Wavy Gravy |

Hi Mom!
I have been very busy little bear. Last weekend we spent few days at Seinäjoki, where my host studies once a month. We went there by train, as you can see in first picture. That big white building behind me is famous church called Lakeuden Risti, and I found some beautiful flowers too. At hotel room I had my own big bed, how nice. And there is quite nice view from Susanna’s classroom, don’t you think? We returned late Saturday night, and were both really tired. At Sunday morning I woke up with strange noise. Susanna was singing Happy Birthday to you…..(believe me Mom she really can’t sing). She remembered my birthday, and we have coffee and cakes for breakfast. I also got a present, look Mom my own diary or travel log, can I take it with me to my travels Mom, can I? Susanna promised to put some mementos in it. Then she showed me you Birthday wishes from computer. Thank you Mom! Weather is getting better, so next weekend we will go outside, can’t wait. Take care Mom xxx Wavy Gravy |

Hi Mom!
Weather hasn’t been what we were hoping for, still cold and rainy. So we haven’t been able to go out much. But yesterday we went to small village Kalkkinen about 30 km from Lahti. At my hosts working place they do little afternoon trips once or twice a year. We got a change to explore small home winery. I’m sorry to say that we didn’t saw actual wine making (some hygiene rules). But we saw some very nice old buildings there. And Susanna bought huge bottle of wine, although she said bottle looks huge only for me. We didn’t taste it yet, we save it for special occasion. We really do hope, that this weekend we can go out and about. Hugs Wavy Gravy |

Hi Mom!
Finally sunny and warm day. So we could go out and I got to see some of Finnish nature. We went to small forest near this beautiful lake. As you may know they called Finland country of thousands of lakes. And almost all Finnish people want to live in town center, by the lake. Well my host lives about 3 km from center and 1 km from nearest lake, so not bad… In forest we saw beautiful white flowers, and I wanted to go and have picture with them. But Susanna told me it’s not a good idea, because they grow at swampy. She didn’t want to wet her shoes. Any way we have nice time, and it’s very peaceful by the lake. In last picture, we are public beach. Here there are not so many sand beaches, but you can sunbathe on grass. I wonder, what we will do next Love you Mom Wavy |

Hi Mom!
I’m officially working little bear now. Yesterday my host took me to very important meeting with her. This meeting was at Lahti city hall, and in pictures you can see me right front of it. Inside the city hall it was forbidden to take pictures. Well I was in Susanna’s bag, and listening looooooooooooong and solemn talks. I must admit, I got little bored, and started to giggle. Susanna hushed me (not because she was mad, but because she was afraid she starts to giggle too). We both were happy, when that meeting ended. At evening we were at home, and suddenly we saw something odd from the window. This hot air balloon was very near Susanna’s living room window. We run at balcony, and took pictures, before it floated away. Picture is not very good, because sun was shining from behind the balloon. Sorry. Well, I wonder where my host will take me next….. Love you Mom! Wavy Gravy |

Hi Mom!
Sorry it took so long to update, my host had little troubles with her health, but she is O.K now. Tuesday 21st of June was the longest day of the year here in Finland. It means the Sun is up almost 24 hours. At the first picture it is nearly midnight and as you can see it’s quite bright. Last weekend we celebrated Midsummer. Well, in my host’s case it means good food and sip of something bubbling. At Midsummer most of Finnish people go to summer cottages and cities are nice and quiet. Finnish people also burn big bonfires at Midsummer eve. Susanna is not big fan cottages or bonfires, so she rather stays at home. So we went to marketplace and bought some delicacies. In Finland they can grow vegetables and berries only at short summer time. And so when new vegetables and berries are ready, they are expensive, but so sweet. We bought new potatoes, strawberries and peas. At Finland you can buy “strong” alcohol like wine from only one types of shops called “Alko” . So we went and bought our bubbling from there. At evening we cooked potatoes and roasted some sausages and have strawberries and sparkling wine for desert yummy! Next my host will take me to work with her, she needs some help learning something new….hmmm. Take Care Mom! xxx Wavy Gravy |

Hi Mom!
Last Saturday morning my host put me in her bag, and said here we go. So I was sure, that now we are going to her workplace. But NO, we went to Helsinki capital city of Finland. Susanna was going to visit one of her school mates, but we had time to take quick tour at center of Helsinki, and I saw few sights. In the first photo is Helsinki Cathedral

Hi Mom!
Yesterday my host took me with her to work. She is working in city library. This fall they will start new service there. Their patrons can digitize their old video tapes, cassettes and vinyl records. There is also possibility to editing photographs and make “home movies”. Most of the patrons are elderly people, so they need help with all that. Susanna is one of the workers, who will help them to use computers and programs. But at first she must learn everything herself. That’s what we did yesterday. It was quite fun, but to be honest I like more to be outside. So Susanna made a promise, that next week will make a trip to forest, and see if we can find any berries or mushrooms. Take Care Mom! Hi Mom!
Fall is coming here to Finland. It’s raining and weather is quite cold. Yesterday the Sun was shining, so my host and I went to forest. It’s not a big forest, but last year Susanna found blue berries and some mushrooms there. First we went this track. But my host told me, that we must take smaller path, if we want to find berries or mushrooms. Well, we found some berries, but no mushrooms at all. Susanna was very disappointed. I suggest, that we collect cones instead, there were plenty of those. She informed me, that it is quite difficult to make cream sauce from cones. Any way I think forest was very beautiful with all those colors, and our trip was relaxing. On our way back we went past this church. It’s Susanna’s “home” church and we hear church bells every Sunday. For a rest of the week we will study hard, we have lot to do before my hosts school starts again. Love you Mom, hugs from Wavy Gravy |

Hi Mom!
We have been studying and studying day after day. So yesterday my host said, we have earned a day off. So we spent a day in Loviisa. Loviisa is a small town about 80 km from Lahti.
First we went to visit Bonga castle. It’s not really a big castle, but very nice (they even have a ghost) . In Bonga, there is atelier of famous artist Riitta Nelimarkka. It was not allowed to take photos inside, but at least you can see me at front of castle. You can also see Loviisa’s church in one photo.
Then we went to see historical houses of Loviisa. It’s an annual event. There are lots of beautiful old buildings in Loviisa, mostly small wooden ones. Once a year owners of those houses let tourists to see their gardens and even take a look inside houses. Susanna and I agree, that we don’t take photos inside anybody’s home, but you can see me outside few houses. There were also small markets and flea markets everywhere. We walked all day and have so much fun. Now back to our studies. Take Care Mom! Hugs and kisses from Wavy |

Hi Mom!
We are so sorry, that we haven’t update for so long. My host has been very busy at work and with her studies. Weather has been wet, cold and windy. So there hasn’t been anything interesting to do around here. Yesterday Susanna was getting ready to go to work (yes she works at Sundays too). I jumped into her backpack, and insisted that she takes me with her. She said that I will get bored at her work. She can’t take photos or show me around, because she needs to serve patrons. But I told her that at least I want to see beautiful autumn colors outside. So here are some photos of our way to work and back. Aren’t they beautiful? My favorite is that red maple leaf. First time night was so cold, that grass is frozen and so were leaves. Nature can make just a beautiful art work, don’t you think? Hugs and kisses Mom! From: Wavy Gravy |

Hello Hello!
Yesterday morning we got ready for our trip. I was so happy and thinking, that finally I will saw something other than books. Little I knew. Guess, where we went….Helsinki-Pasila book fair. First we went to Art Forum fair. There were lots of different art works. Most of them were modern, and we didn’t “understand” them. In photo you can see with this big wild board made of steel wire or something like that. Well I wouldn’t want it in our living room. Then we saw some old books, and then we saw some new books and more books and……..We also saw some strange figures. My host told me they are characters from Finnish children’s books. We walk in the fair for hours. There were very crowded and hot. But it was still quite fun. Take Care Mom! Wavy |

You never know, what happened yesterday. I got company. I’m so happy, well Droopy the dog (if you remember him) is nice fellow, but spends most of time in his own thoughts. And now, let me introduce my new friends. Here is handsome BEAR called Punker. I have real bear friend now mom! And here is cute duck called Darwin, I’m sure we will have fun together too. For occasion Susanna decided, that we will have a little party. And so we had some pastries and chocolate and hot cocoa. Mom I think I have gained some weight here. But if weather is good this weekend, we will go to long walk…. Your very happy little bear Wavy |

Last weekend we went to Seinäjoki again. I have been there several times, but it was fun to travel with other Voyagers this time. At train we had whole compartment just for ourselves. We saw Susanna’s school and took pictures at river Seinäjoki. If you translate the name from word to word it means Wallriver. We all started to wonder, where that name comes from. Susanna didn’t know, maybe we will Google it….Weather is getting colder and we are waiting first snow. Take Care Mom! Wavy |

Hi Mom!
Last Friday we got a big surprise. When Susanna arrived from work, she was giggling. Suddenly someone shouted HELLO! It was new visitor Big Foot. He is funny fellow, I like him. We shared candies he brought and some chocolate too. Then we started to learn Finnish language. Droopy is our teacher. Finnish language is quite difficult. I have been here for a while, so I have learnt something already. My name is Wavy Gravy = minun nimeni on Wavy Gravy. I can also count to ten yksi=one kaksi=two kolme=three neljä=four viisi=five kuusi=six seitsemän=seven kahdeksan=eight yhdeksän=nine kymmenen=ten The most difficult thing are these letters Ä and Ö. I can’t wait Christmas, although there is no sign of snow yet. Love you Mom! Rakastan sinua äiti! Wavy |

Hi Mom!
Last Tuesday 6.12 was Independence Day of Finland. At the morning, we noticed that first snow has arrived. Susanna tried to take photos of us with Finnish flag, but it wasn’t windy enough. Some people light two candles at the window at 6 pm, but Susanna can’t do that, because of that funny cat of hers. She really don’t have any real tradition for celebrate, but there are two tv-programs she watches every Independence Day, so we watch them with her. First is old black and white movie called Tuntematon sotilas ( The Unknown Soldier) based on Väinö Linna’s book. Film is about Finnish Continuation War. It was little frightening time to time, glad I have company with me. And then we watch reception by Finnish president Tarja Halonen at Presidental Palace. Can you believe mom we watched several hours, how people shake hands with the president. And that is one of the most popular tv-programs at all year here. Susanna explained, that it is interesting to see whose been invited, who’s with who and what kind of dresses ladies have. Really…… We are all busy with Christmas preparations, but I will write soon. Hugs from Wavy |

Hi Mom!
I’m sorry we haven’t update for a while, but before Christmas we were busy and at Holidays we just relax. Here are few photos, how we spent our time. Couple of days before Christmas we went to see Christmas lights at Lahti City Hall. This was the first year, they have special lightning. Photos are not very good (Susanna says sorry!). At Christmas Eve we went to cemetery and take candles to graves of those loved ones, who have passed away. Weather was not very nice as you can see. We all were feeling cold, when we got home. So we were ready to Christmas sauna. I must say sauna isn’t really my thing, so humid and hot. But Big Foot just loved it. I waited most of time in dressing room with Darwin. After sauna we had our Christmas dinner. There were lots and lots to eat. For example Christmas ham, rutabaga casserole, potato casserole, rosolli salad and much more…Boy we were full and so we went to sleep quite early. Happy New Year Mom! Love you! Wavy Gravy |

Yesterday we made a trip to the most famous castle in the region, the Veste Coburg. It is one of the best preserved castles in Germany. The castle exists since the 13th century and was restored and upgraded a lot of times in its history. Martin Luther, the reformer stood there in 1530 for a few month. We visited the museums. I liked the museum of glass art most. Look, the fantastic candelabra! We also looked at the collection of sleighs. There is one very pretty with flowers and fruits, we took a picture of it. We also saw the smoker lounge, very comfortable with the chimney! I wish you a nice week, my dear mummy! Kisses from Germany, Wavy Gravy |

My dear Mummy at home,
today I made a sightseeing trip! We were in Bamberg which is a very old city. It is even a world heritage! Our first stop was a fountain with a neptune sculpture ontop. The Bamberg inhabitants call it "Gabelmo". Then we walked to the river Regnitz. There we watched "little Venice", a few nice houses near the river. We looked at the old townhall, built in the middle of the river, crazy! After visiting the gothic cathedral we tasted the original Bambergian beer "Schlenkerla". It is a smoked beer. Crazy, too Huggies to California! Wavy Gravy |

Hi Mom!
(Wavy wrote this before he left, but I have had some difficulties so I’m sorry about delay with this update Susanna) Real winter has finally arrived here in southern Finland. So I got to see snow, before I travel to my next host. I’m so happy. We went to see little lake again. It sure looks different now. All covered with ice. We saw people on ice, and wonder, what they are doing. Susanna explained. As soon as ice is strong enough (sometimes those people try to go there before that… drowned people every autumn) people, mostly man goes to ice to ice fishing. They make hole on ice and catch fishes. These Finnish people really are funny. They sit on small stools at cold, windy lake for hours and hours, and got few small fish or nothing. And Mom, they all were alone, so they don’t have talk to anybody. Hmmmmmm. We, me Darwin and Big Foot had lots of fun playing in snow. Love you Mom! Wavy Gravy |

Hey, all my friends at home!
What a wonderful evening! Yesterday Yosi packed me in her handbag and said that she has a surprise for me. I wondered what this should be. We went to the main station in Lichtenfels by bike and I wondered even more Then we went into the building and there were so much people waiting for something... We went into the bar at the station. Curiously! She ordered a cup of Cappuccino. BTW the station of Lichtenfels is a very nice building, see the historical room! Then I saw the surpise, there was a live band! Two men, one with a guitar and one with a contrabass. They gave a live concert and I enjoyed the music! They played a lot of songs I love! Especially from the 60s and 70s. I asked if they could fullfill me a wish. I would like to hear some songs about my home country. They played two songs for me: "Hotel California" and "Sacramento". Dear Mum, I wished it for you! Cheers, I shared a beer with hostdad and the little Kibblet Kiss, your Wavy Gravy |

Hello to California!
Today was a very exciting day! Hostmum and hostdad took us to their garden and I saw how sequoias look like in Germany. But hostdad said it takes time, time and more time until they get as big as the biggest trees in California. Well, I can wait I was allowed to drive the little tractor, that was funny But my belly was a little bit too big, so I could not steer Then I helped as good as I could with the garden work. After that we found pretty little crocusses in the meadow. When we finished our work we enjoyed the warm spring sun, wonderful! Love you, your Wavy Gravy |

Today we made a trip by bike. Ok, we tried to go by bike, but it didn´t work well Fortunately hostdad has a big backpack and so we traveled comfortable uphill. In front of the famous rococo basilica Vierzehnheiligen we stopped. It was built by Balthasar Neumann in the 18th century. It is a famous church of pilgrimage, too. Look how big the front is, according to us TVs! Behind the church is another grand building, the brewery Trunk. I tasted original franconian dark beer. Bodo helped me, because I was to small Believe it or believe it not, it tasted sooooooooooooooo yummie, Love you! Wavy Gravy |

Altogether we found a big basket full of sweets. Later on I saw real bunnies! They live in the barn in our garden. But if they made the sweets? I really don´t know Yours, WavyGravy |

Hello, California!
Today we visited Legoland, a mini city made ouf of Lego bricks. Look how much sight from all over the world we saw in a few hours: Castle Neuschwanstein (original in Germany), me in front of my castle Amalienborg (original in Kopenhagen, Denmark), me in front of another pretty danish castle, me in the yard of a nursery. Then we changed the continent. Suddenly I saw the Miss Libby and the Mount Rushmore and the Capitol! Time to eat something before I´ll get crazy One last look to a big harbour and the fabulous garden and then we had to say Goodbye Legoland! |

Hey Mummy!
Today *-Cookie-* , hostmum and me made a trip to Bayreuth. At first the weather was not to good, so we didn´t take any pictures. But then sun came out! We visited the opera house which was built in the middle of the 18th century. It is in baroque and the interieur is very luxurious. In Bayreuth the margravine Wilhelmine advanced the culture so that there is still a cultural heritage today. The opera house is nominated to be a UNESCO world heritage! I found a pretty little park with a lot of colourful spring flowers! There we made a rest on a bench. But that´s not all! The most famous event in Bayreuth are the "Wagner Festspiele", the Wagner festival. Richard Wagner is a very, very famous german composer who built a opera house only for his operas in the end of the 19th century. Every year several V.I.P.s come to Bayreuth to enjoy his music. We didn´t go to the festival hall but we found a souvenir with a nice picture on it Last but not least we saw some funny artwork. Men climbing at a house, very funny Yours, Wavy |

Hello, Mum!
On saturday a parcel arrived. I saw the stamp of the US postal service on it and wondered what it should be. Wooooooooooow, inside was Cheerio a really pretty duck from San Fransisco! Do you remember her? She was with you last year! Together we looked at some photos of her trip to Sacramento, my hometown. Great to hear a familiar slang and to have a compatriot here! |

Hello, Mummy!
No, hostmum hasn´t forgotten my birthday on Tuesday. She promised me that I will accompany her to a special event. And it was a very special event! We were at the Dolls and Teddy-Festival in Sonneberg, not far away from Lichtenfels. In Sonneberg were many toy factories and therefor the city is called "Toy City". In the fair there were so much hand built bears, I met some cousins of mine And accessoires in my size, too! Hostmum asked if I want the pretty hat, but no, it is a little to female In another hall a bears band played good rock I took part of the bears school, Wolley was the teacher. We listened to his interesting stories about Africa! We found a booth with handbags. We chose two for our girls at home. Hope I chose the right colour The coolest bears I´ve ever seen were the knights in the old castle. They sat together as like around the Round table of the Arthurian Legend. In the last hall we saw the bears at the contest. So much pretty bears! My favourite: the one with the lady bugs What a interesting afternoon! Thanks for this present, hostmum! |

Hey Mummy!
Today we made a trip tp the Bavarian Garden Exhibition in Bamberg. Günther, *Paul*, Cheerio and me accompanied our hosts. Because the exhibition is so big we travelled in hostmums backpack. There were so many plants, I don´t know which of them I like most. Maybe the blue viola or the red poppy? We rested in a deck chair before we continued our walk. We saw pretty artwork and then I saw bed with white and yellow flowers. That reminded me for my dear cousin Edelweiss! The desert plants were also very pretty. The desert made us thirsty We tasted original franconian beer And then we saw what you expect in a german garden: A garden gnome And once more artwork: leaks in the wall were filled with colourful Lego bricks Time to say Goodbye: One last picture with pretty flowers. What a intersting day! Love you, Mummy! Yours, Wavy Gravy |

Hello to California!
Today we made a trip to Nueremberg! We went by train and while waiting for it we had a cappuccino. Good start! In the train we occupied four seats. Hostmum luckily bought a familiy ticket First sightseeing stop was the opera house. Second stop was at the big Lorenz cathedral. Then we had a good view to the old castle, unfortunately in renovation. The next stop was a real highlight, I saw something, a american tourist MUST have seen in Germany. I saw a cockoo clock!!! Such a pretty thing!!! And a very, very big nut cracker!!! And then something very strange happened: We went to a booth with Buddhas and there I got an enlightenment! What a great feeling! We visited a few more sights, the place where the Christkindlesmarkt takes place. This is the oldest and most famous christmas market in the world! This was it for today, your enlighted Wavy Gravy |

Hello to California!
What a great week! So much happened! We were in Berlin, but that wasn´t all! It was hostmum´s and my first trip to the capitol of Germany and so we did what every tourist do. We watched the most famous sights of the city during a boat trip on the river Spree. At first you see the cathedral of Berlin, the house of the cultures of the world, in Berlin also called "Pregnant oyster" The hyper futuristic building of the Chancellery and the old Reichtstag, where the german parliament is located in. In the background of the next photo you see the television tower, 368 meters high, called "Alex". One more historic building: The Brandenburg gate. It is the most famous building of Berlin. Here was the border between west and east for 40 years before Germany was reunioned. The mascot of Berlin is the bear and I met him Another surprise: Hostmum said we´ll have a date!!! And guess what: Suddenly Crawfish came around! We had a TV meeting with several Californian visitors in Berlin! Special thanks to Alex Squirt! It was so great to see Crawfish and Dudette, the little mouse of LittleCableCars far awy from home! We chatted a long time and took Peaches with us. She will saty with us and wants to explore the world! I am very happy! Lots of Love, Wavy Gravy |

Hello, Mummy!
Even more adventure! On our way back from Berlin we stopped at the Miniworld, where a lot of sights are built in scale 1:25. At first we explored a castle from the middle ages! Burg Eltz from the 12th century in western Germany. And some memories of Berlin, the castle Sanssouci in Potsdam and the famous sight of Brandenburg gate and Siegessäule (victory column). Time to start our trip around the world! We climbed up the Leaning Tower of Pisa and I felt like drunken Then India with the fantastical mausoleum Taj Mahal, Australia with the Sydney Opera House. And last but not least: USA!!! Cheerio and me posed at the Washington Monument and she hissed the Stars-and Stripes at the Capitol in Washington! Certainly we sang our hymn |

Today we accompanied hostmum to Wuerzburg, a town at the river Main, about 100km west from Lichtenfels. We explored the most famous building in Wuerzburg, the residence, built by the prince-bishop in the 18th century. What a wonderful gate into a wonderful park! There was a lion, made from stone. He seemed to be sick, so I promised to help him. I looked into his mouth. But I only found dental calcus On our way back we passed an interesting shop: jelly bears |

Hello Mummy!
This weekend we spent in south of Germany! In the morning we visited the technical museum in Sinsheim. In the exhibition I saw a lot of impressing oldtimers, even cars from USA! Outside is a real Concorde where you can go in! In the afternoon we had a meeting, but hostmum didn´t reveal with whom... We went to a castle and in the park around was a medieval market! Oh, I like it! I tested the gloves made from steel, but they were too big for me There was a booth with colourful bands, very beautiful! And another with purses in rainbow colours! But what is the surprise? Suddenly we saw a few plushys on a bench. Who is it? Yeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaahhhhhhhh, our meeting! We were 17 TVs and enjoyed together the market and the knights tournament! I also met Fiona, it was great! What a great day!!!! Love, Wavy Gravy |

Then hostmum helped us, she kneaded the dough until it was a smooth ball. Then the girls made jelly and marzipane on the dough. Now it looks like a sweet pizza
Good cookies need an icing! This was my job! I cutted a lemon because we needed lemon juice. My sweety Bernie added sugar. Oh, I love these colourful sugar pearsl, we put some on the icing. Now the cookies look very yummie. And they taste soooooooooooooooo sweet |

There is a lot of snow in Germany! There was snowfall the last few days and so we were very keen on going out. We waited unpatiently until hostmum came back from work. Then we took the old sleigh and went out. We choose Huli Hutu as our fellow, because we hoped that he is more experienced with snow than an australian bear girl and an californian bear We found a perfect sleigh run and started... uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuhhhhhhhhh, I felt the wind in my fur! But suddenly the sleigh stopped and Bernie and me fell aboard! But nothing happened, we are still ok! Now we are in to dry and to heat up |

Happy new year!
We celebrated the New years eve in the garden. Hostdad made a big campfire and hang a pot over it. There he roasted meat and vegetables for a goulash. The whole stuff had to cook 3 hours! During this time we sat together at the fire and talked about the last year and what the new will bring. This was the moment when I thought about my dear Mummy. I sent my love with the smoke to heaven. Then Bernie took me in her arms and consoled me. When it was midnight I gave Bernie a big kiss! Wavy Gravy |

Last week we spent a very nice time in Alto Adige.
My adoptive parents, 3*Euro, Joesy and me made a trip to the botanical garden of "Schloss Trautmannsdorf" in Meran. There are lovely sceneries with waterfalls and exotic plants. There are even coast redwoods, the trees of my homeland, California! I kept a moment in silence for my Mommy But my life goes on and so I enjoyed the pretty flowers and the artwork in the garden. In the evening we went to the tavern Fischerkeller and ordered some wine and a mixed plate for 2 persons or 10 plushies I am sure that we´ll come back |

Hello my friends all over the world,
after my short stopover .... today my alarm clock bells at cock-crows. This should be the great day where we start our “special trip”. After I snuffled together my luggage hostdad brought us to the station. By train we traveled via Hannover to Hamburg…. Hamburg Habour, Cruise Terminal. I can not believe what vessel was laying there on the pier! The Queen personally; Queen Mary 2!!!!. We cecked in, left our luggage in the custodial care of the crew and started a short sightseeing tour through Hamburg. Since 1897, the seat of the government has been the Hamburg city hall The town hall is a richly decorated Neo-Renaissance building finished in 1897. The tower is 112 metres (367 ft) high. Its façade, 111 m (364 ft) long, depicts the emperors of the Holy Roman Empire, since Hamburg was, as a Free Imperial City, only under the sovereignty of the emperor. The Speicherstadt (lit. city of warehouses, meaning warehouse district) in Hamburg, Germany is the largest timber-pile founded warehouse district in the world. It is located in the port of Hamburg—within the HafenCity quarter—and was built from 1883 to 1927. The district was built as a free zone to transfer goods without paying customs. As of 2009 the district and the surrounding area is under redevelopment time for a coffee under a palmtree a little chat with guys from Hamburg after entering this majestic ship we left the harbour very slowly, so the mass of people could say good bye to us TV´s, it seems like a folk festival. in the background Europe's largest inner-city development (as of 2008), the HafenCity, will house about 10,000 inhabitants and 15,000 workers. The plan includes designs by Rem Koolhaas and Renzo Piano. The Elbe Philharmonic Hall (Elbphilharmonie), expected to be completed by 2015, will house concerts in a building on top of an old warehouse, designed by the Swiss firm Herzog & de Meuron. another cruise terminal Blankenese is a former independent town, now a suburban quarter in the borough Altona in the western part of Hamburg (Germany). It is located on right bank of the Elbe river. In 2006 the population was 13,011. While the sun went down we left the river Elbe and reached the North Sea. a big hug for my mum in heaven Wavy Gravy |

Next stop is Copenhagen, Denmark.. What bad luck! The QM2 had to moored roadstead of shortage of space in the habour, but the captain said it´s to dangerouse in cause of strong current trough the Sound. So the land excursion is canceled! after looking into the daily program and a short discussion ( with yummy chocolate) later we decided to ride the glass elevator ... up and down and up and down and up and down ...... ....in the meantime the Queen moved slowly toward Oslo . kisses from Wavy Gravy |

Akershus Fortress (Norwegian: Akershus Festning) or Akershus Castle (Norwegian: Akershus slott) is a medieval castle that was built to protect Oslo, the capital of Norway. It has also been used as a prison. Today we´ll made a Sightseeingtour throug the capitaltown of Norway. First stop is Vigelandpark, an area with lots of human sculptures showing the whole circle of life. Fantastic. Next stop is the opympic ski-jump Holmenkollen. It´s not the original olympic one from 1952, its the new 3 years old skijump. I met a very friendly Troll and a big bear and we visited Akershus Fortress then we posed in front of our majestic ship after another day on the rough sea, we arrived back in Hamburg what a wonderful trip Wavy Gravy |

Hello world,
a short trip to Hamburg to visit the zoo, The Tierpark Hagenbeck is a zoo in Stellingen, now a quarter in Hamburg, Germany. The collection began in 1863 with animals that belonged to Carl Hagenbeck Sr. (1810–87), a fishmonger who became an amateur animal collector. The park itself was founded by Carl Hagenbeck Jr. in 1907. It is known for being the first zoo to use open enclosures surrounded by moats, rather than barred cages, to better approximate animals' natural environments, very interesting. I have a little chat with the elephants and they were so friendly and showed me their living room and swimming pool. I have seen orangutans. Turtles. Strange fish. Lions and polar bears. the brown bears were very talkative and have complained about the sign. Why "Do not feed"? Here you see the old entrance gate. Before my train drove back, a last look at the harbour bye bye Wavy Gravy |

Dr.Kröbner Posted Dec 29, 2013, 3:25 pm |
Hello my adoptive parents and my mum in heaven,
Christmastime is coming and all around the people are busy with decoration and illumination. We too!Dr. Kröbner want to arrange a cristmastree and need our assistance. But where we can get a Christmastree and how did he looks like? Mr. Lemony sayed that he has seen some trees in hostmums orangerie, so we risk a view inside. Indeed, there were some plants, but which we could use for a christmastree? So we decided to vote by selecting every ones favorit. The result was without anny doubt, we would take the tree in the middle. Now the next problem: how to carry it from the orangerie in the livingroom? After several recommendations we try to permute Günthers idea: to manage it like the Viking, with logs. First we need a wooden beam and a strong rope to build a lifting arm. With united power we managed it to lift the bucket of the tree at the backside, while *coco* and Phog … could place a log behind the baseplate. At next the biggest of us had to luffing on a lever to lift the baseplate at the frontside for placing a secound log behind the plate. After we managed this diffucult parts Scruffy and Dr.Kröbner pulling the rope and Günther make nonsense. *coco* ,Mr.Lemony and Gwen Jolies job was, to lay new logs in the front of the baseplate. It works surprisingly good! I was supervising the experiment . After a while we passed the corridor…. the kittchen… . livingroom. We all are rather groggy and decided to continue tomorrow with the christmasdecoration..... more later Wavy Gravy |

Dr.Kröbner Posted Dec 29, 2013, 5:15 pm |
.....Next day, early morning: Christmastreedecoration.
At Hostmums attic we found some knitted balls and other oddities and place it into the Christmastree in expectation of big presents At christmaseve: We hearded a big noise like stamping and rumbling. Dr. Kröbner means, it could be St. Claus. 5 minutes after the noises stopped we enter the livingroom and indeed, the cristmastree was surrounded by presentsand Dr. Kröbner started to distribute them and we unwrap our packets a sleigh ...wow...thank you.. Merry Christmas my beloved mummy in heaven and Merry Christmas to my adoptive parents yours Wavy Gravy |

Dear mum in heaven,
after a long convalescence I was able to go on journey again. I was so happy to be invited to Paderborn cause my love Bernie is there at the moment So I packed two very important things into my small parcel (thank you very much,Yosemite), said goodbye to my friends and started... two days later I arrived Paderborn. Sitting in my parcel very nervously I heard some voices...among others the voice of Bernie When my parcel was opened I stood up but before I was able to say something Bernie fainted Didn't she love me any more? I was standing there waiting for a sign of life while Monsti, OleOrangescarf, Josie and Frederik tried to wake Bernie up...After a very long time she raised up and looked at me. And I lost no time, showed her my flowers and the heart and proposed to her...and Bernie fainted again What did I wrong? Bernie raised up again and said: "Wavy Gravy, my love...of course I want to marry you!!" That made me so happy but at the same time I asked me why she fainted if she wanted to marry me...I intended to understand the girls some time... After all these excitements I had to lie down for a while and Bernie said I could lie my head on her lap I'm so so happy yours engaged Wavy Gravy |

Dear mum in heaven, dear Yosemite,
after a few days of regeneration (and not only regeneration ) we took a spring walk near Schlangen today morning. There is a forest which is famous for a flower called 'Lerchensporn' in German. The flowers are blooming in white and purple and we saw thousands of them...it looked like a carpet of flowers And we saw violets and 'Buschwindröschen' and 'Scharbockskraut' and another yellow flower...and Frederik found his first dandelion this year (he loves dandelion). Yours very happy Wavy Gravy |

Dear mum in heaven, dear Yosemite,
today we had a TV-meeting in Bad Driburg: we met Strunki with HelmutBluepant, *Nick*, Störte and Sean. It was great to visit the garden of the hotel and the impressive sofas in it. See us sitting there: OleOrangescarf, HelmutBluepant, *Nick*, Sean, Monsti, me, Bernie, Störte, Soeren and Paris. And little Eugen. And we saw a real old litter but nobody wanted to carry us Then it was time to say goodbye to my good friend OleOrangescarf who travelled home with his mum. I'm sure we'll see again! And we took *Nick* and Störte and Helmut with us home. Bye |

Dear mum in heaven, dear Yosemite,
late in the evening we started our chocolate-bunny-hiding-tour by car. We drove to many friends of hostparents and put one or more bunnies in front of their houses WITHOUT waking somebody up. Monsti was the look-out The bunnies in the car got less and less...nobody caught us...it was a very funny but also exciting tour! Yours Wavy Gravy |

Then we went into the garden for searching chocolate eggs and bunnies mum had hidden for us We searched and searched and found many eggs Look! And then HelmutBluepant had to search his birthday present we had hidden in the garden. He searched and searched and we said "warmer" or "colder" and after a loooong time he found it on a tree! We all helped him climbing up and then he transported it down very carefully. He was very pleased with our present: an outdoor microscope! HAPPY EASTER!!! Yours Wavy Gravy |

Dear mum in heaven, dear Yosemite,
today morning we went on a cycling tour to Altenbeken, a village next to Neuenbeken. We drove through a nice landscape and reached Altenbeken with it's landmark, the big viaduct. On our way back suddenly a rabbit came towards us. It was Hanna Hops on her way back from her relatives she had visited at Easter. Bernie and Monsti who had got to know her in Jever were very happy to see her again and hugged her. Then we sat together in the bike basket and at river Beke and Hanna told us how happy she was to have a lift back home. Yours Wavy Gravy |

Dear mum in heaven, dear Yosemite,
our first stop on our luxurious train-journey to Rome was Munich. A nice town if you asked me. Suddenly somebody said: "Look, the Peter's place! We've arrived Rome!" But unfortunately in Munich there's such a place as well The Peter's church has got a tower that you're allowed to climb up and of course we did. Great view! After a while we entered the next train, the night train to Rome! The sleeping car invited us to play a bit before having a night meal and then sleeping. Good night, when we'll awake we'll be in Italy Yours Wavy Gravy |
||||||

Dear mum in heaven, dear Yosemite,
when we wake up in the early morning we looked out of the window immediately for getting a first impression of Italy... In Rome we were very happy to arrive our nice little holiday flat near the Vaticanian wall. After a short time we walked to the city for the first time and were very impressed with the Engelsburg (castle of angels), the Engelsbrücke, the bridge across the river Tiber, the famous Piazza Navona and the very very old Pantheon. Back home we needed some chocolate and felt into bed. That was our first day in the great town Rome. Yours Wavy Gravy |

Dear mum in heaven, dear Yosemite,
today we visited the cathedral St. Peter for the first time. Wow! It looked very great and the place with it's fountains as well. After these impressions we needed a refreshment: Ice cream in Rome! It was so yummy...you can't imagine! Unfortunately it was so warm outside that hostmum took a photo of Mefito only cause it was his life mission. But there'll be another chance of taking an ice-photo I'm sure. Then we visited the famous Trevi fountain. You have to throw a coin over your shoulder into the fountain, that brings luck and let you come back to Rome some time. In the course of a year there are thousands of Euros, Dollars etc. on the ground of the fountain which are for a good cause. Back home we sat on the steps in front of our house. The small street is only for pedestrians, very good! That's it for today, good night yours Wavy Gravy |
||||||
mcdaniels Posted May 19, 2014, 9:04 pm |
This morning we studied the map of Rome and tried to decide what to visit today. After three hours we reached an agreement but before starting we needed a refreshment...tea and cookies
Then we started to the church St. Giovanni in Laterano with it's very nice inner courtyard. On our way to the famous Colosseum we saw Oranges! The Colosseum was very impressive just as the Forum Romanum we visited next. Back home we had no questions any more... Yours Wavy Gravy |

Dear mum in heaven, dear Yosemite,
today we walked through Rome for visiting the very famous Spanish stairs (the stairs of the loving people ) Our way leeded us through the via delle Conziliazione and through typical narrow streets. The Spanish steps looked great but there were so many people that you couldn't see much of it. In the afternoon we went to the basilica St. Peter for entering the tower. Wow! What a sight!!! After this long day we were very happy but tired and glad to be back in our street cliva delle muro vaticano. Yours Wavy Gravy |

today we took another walk through Rome. We saw some typical houses, some lemon trees, climbed some old steps and saw an observatory from a long way away. Through the trees we could throw a glance at Rome. Back on the St. Peter's place we enjoyed the basilica in the evening light. Yours Wavy Gravy |

Today we visited the famous park Villa Borghese, a large recreation area in the middle of this big city. At the weekend the park is full of Roman families but on Monday it was really empty.
Next to the entrance there was a nice fountain. In the park there was a lake with little rowing boats and of course we rowed Look at the turtels in the background! After rowing we discovered a nice bike but unfortunately hostparents wanted to walk through the park. We saw many old trees, a fountain and we met Goethe We visited a nice garden, a Sphinx and a sculpture of a very sweet girl...okay it's our honeymoon but Bernie was enthusiastic about the other sculpture... On the way back home we saw a typical 'refreshment-car'. Good night! |

*Nick* had to search first. He counted to 100 and we others looked for good hiding places. Have a look! Then *Nick* started to search...and after a long time he found one after the other apart from Frederik. Though Frederik hadn't a real hiding place he wasn't found cause he's so small nobody can see him when he sits somewhere... We played and played cause everybody had to search alternately.
