The water is Port Phillip Bay and it goes from the sea to Melbourne city. We had a walk along the waterfront at Western beach and had a look at some of the Geelong Bollards they tell the history of the local area. There are over 100 of them, we got to look at a few here are some life savers here we are with the the Salvation Army lady here I am with Toto - we think these rowing people are watching us having our photo taken! Hi Mum,
On the way home we stopped and had a look at the Geelong Botanic Gardens this man started the gardens back in 1851 - the lady has a flower press (behind her back) and a little bit of plant she has picked from the garden. Flower pressing was very popular back then, here we are in the sage garden some interesting bird sculptures and this is in the fern and palm garden. Love and hugs Hasune xxooxxoo |

Hi Mum,
We went for a big drive today to Ballarat Wildlife Park. Here we are ready to go! this is a Tasmanian Devil. They growl and scream a lot. The early settlers here in Australia called the Devils because they could hear the noise the animals made, but could only see the red ears, and they were scarey!! You can see how red the ears look with the sun shining on them! my first view of a real koala (other than Binky of course!! ) they were busy eating their gum leaves Ooohhh... hello, how are you? This is a western gray kangaroo, maybe it thought I had food? back to eating now! over there is an emu and a kangaroo here is another emu Mum, it was watching me and the food we had left for a kangaroo, we think this was a crocodile, but it might have been an alligator, we aren't sure have a look at this big old lizard Mum, he might have been checking me out for dinner, lucky he was behind glass!! giant tortoise having mushrooms and cucumber for lunch Ooohh... this was a crocodile this baby wombat wanted to come out and play - it is one year old and very cute! here we are on our way home Mum -- through the gum trees! We have had a busy day so I am off for a snooze on the back seat now! Love and hugs Hasune xxooxxo |

Hi Mum,
We had a home day today - this is where I am staying Mum this is part of the yard here I am having a chat with Tupai the chow chow - he was looking out for rabbits (his name means happy - it is a Maori word) here I am down the back near the dam - there has been a lot of rain this spring so everything is still very green, this is unusual for this time of the year, usually by now the grass is brown and dried off. Love and hugs Hasune xxooxxoo |
fleursmum Posted Dec 25, 2011, 3:17 am |
Hi Mum,
Today we went to the park to take the chow chow for a walk, it was a hot day but we were ok. we started here by the old courthouse - it was built in 1851 which is pretty old for buildings here - not in Europe though!! this is the old jail out the back of the courthouse this sculpture is by the footie oval - it was carved by a woman with a chain saw out of an old tree - it is two footie players and a bulldog. The local footie (Australian rules) team is called the Bulldogs. we stopped at the creek so the chow chow could have a drink and a swim - not a bad idea - I was a little tempted! now we are heading off into the old park amongst the oak trees we had a little rest while we waited for the chow to catch up to us - he has to sniff everything!! Love and hugs Hasune xxooxx |

Hi Mum,
Today we went on a big drive to Rotorua. Rotorua is also known as Sulphur City because of all the geothermal activity that happens there - the place smells like rotten eggs!!! Our first stop was at Rainbow Springs Here we are with a model of a moa - they are flightless birds that are now extinct It is a bit hard to see but up the back is a kaka - which is a NZ parrot next we had a look at the trout from under the water Sue says sorry for the blurry photo!! this is a baby tuatara these are really old reptiles, we found out they can eat once in six months and breathe once in 1 hour - no wonder the adults don't do much!!! we found a nice waterfall to have a little rest by and then went off to see the kiwi's. We only got one photo because you can't take photos inside 'cos it scares the kiwi's. This one was ok though! Now I am in the Government Gardens in Rotorua - this building used to be the baths - the hot mineral water was piped in and people could go and soak for their health. Now it has a spa inside and a museum and art gallery Behind us here is the spring where the water for the baths comes from - it is 212 degrees Fahrenheit or 100 degrees Celsius. I didn't want to fall of this wall and into the water!!!! These carvings were surrounding the memorial for the Maori soldiers who had served in WW1 Lake Rotorua the water was boiling up out of the ground and the sulphur smell was very strong you have to stay on the path here cos the thermal activity is changing all the time and the crust of the earth can be very thin. The yellow on the rocks is from the sulphur. we came home through Te Puke and stopped to look at the big kiwi fruit, there is alot of kiwi fruit grown around this area Early night for us tonight Mum, we had such a busy day!! Love and hugs Hasune xxooxx |

Behind the station is Docklands - which used to be the docks but has been renovated and now has apartments, restaurants and shops and a huge sporting area. we had a ride on the city circle tram, it is a free tram that travels around the edge of the centre of the city we got off for a while at the State Parliament building you can see the tram down on the road and over the road is the Windsor Hotel here we are sitting on the bridge overlooking the Yarra River this is the spire on top of the Arts centre this statue was outside the Arts centre, it is called Family 2, so we decided to join the family Family 1 statue was gone, so we became the family!! here we are by the Yarra River, the bridge we were on before is behind us Nice day here, 25 degrees C, slight breeze, sunny - what more could you want!! here we are back on the bridge - behind us is the MCG - Melbourne Cricket Ground - where cricket, Australian Rules football and sometimes concerts are held.
