Remscheid, Germany - 14th October 2009

By: olgamaus

Hello Mummy,
in the afternoon we visited Katja's aunt who is also living in the city centre, about 30 minutes to walk from my current home. The sun was shining, so we went afoot.

I am living in this pretty house at the moment. Our apartment is in the attic storey with a nice view.

Close to my home you can find the local court. It's the large building in the background.

We than walked along the "Trasse des Werkzeugs" (Route of Tools) which is a lane for pedestrians and cyclists. It was built on a closed railway track. This route is about 5 km long, starting at the central station and going to a district called "Hasten". You can walk through the city here without getting into contact with traffic very often. Katja really likes  this route.

This route was sponsored by local tool procuding companies. Remscheid is famous for its tool producing and metalworking industry.  Along the route you can find some artworks and interesting historical sites. We started here, close to the former slaughterhouse. This building complex is under monumental protection, containing offices, service companies and crafts enterprises.

Here is a piece of artwork: A bench which was built of the axis of a waterwheel and railway sleepers.

Here are some signs showing the logos of some of the sponsoring companies.

Here is a nice place for a rest.

Sometimes you can find distance data painted to the ground.

Some houses were built really close to the railway track.

We are close to the central station now. Here you have lots of large factory buildings.

On this map you can see the course of the Trasse des Werkzeugs.

In the background you can see the recently re-opened central station. A new one was built here for more than two years.

We had a coffe with Katja's aunt and talked for an hour. Than it was time to walk back home, enjoying the nice weather.

Bye
Hippoda
