Munich, old town, Germany - 16th July 2008

By: olgamaus

In the town centre we visited the Viktualienmarkt, the most famous daily market in the town. You can find about 140 stalls and shops here where they sell all sorts of meat, vegetables, fruits, fish, herbs and spices flowers and more.

Katja's daughter tasted original Bavarian white sausages with sweet mustard and freshly baked pretzels. We had our second beer here.

After that we visited the Beer- and Oktoberfest museum.

You can see many old beer mugs here and learn a lot about the breweries and the guild of brewers. You can also learn a lot about the history of the Oktoberfest. Many old posters are shown, pictures about acitivies on the Oktoberfest and we watched a movie which showed how beer is made.

These tools were used in winter to cut ice out of frozen lakes, the forceps was used to grab the blocks of ice. We saw in the movie who they were used.

Even in the past people had some problems relating to beer:

This is a poster of a  travelling exhibition about alcoholism in the year 1907 A.A.  (That will happen to peple and bears who have their second beer in broad daylight, I'm afraid).

We simply eliminated all thoughts about alcoholism and walked straight to the HofbrÀuhaus.
