I don't know if this has already been suggested, if so please delete this thread 
Have you considered building an IRC chat into this site, so the members can chat in Real-Time and maybe create some Traveller-Host-Relationships.
An IRC-channel is easy to create and its just some code to copy&paste to get a chat into this page
What do you think about it?
