Hello toyvoyager friends

since a while I think about these amount of photos on flickr and other websites. As long as we are paying our bought account, there is no problem.
Many members had to buy it, because we have so many photos. So here is my problem, which causes sleepless nights:

What happens to our travelogs, if former hosts quit there account on flickr etc. All photos will disappear and the travelogs will look like ... just undescribable. And of course it can happen, that someone joins out there, may it just happen to save costs or if something else happens to that person.

Hmm, I just wanted to share my problem. I think, I have to pay for flickr for a lifetime now, because I have photos there, which are linked to toyvoyagers and I personally don't know, if I like this idea. I never thought of it before, but it is in my thougths since weeks now.

Greetings
Petra

Yeah I was wondering about that if people delete the photos off of their flickr or photobucket or whatever... they wouldn't be on the travel log anymore would they?

Is there anyway to have them gain their own link or something when put on the travel log so you don't loose them if that happens?

I just keep mine on a photobucket because it's free and I just keep all the photos like that - since I know I don't want my photos to disappear let alone other people having their photos disappear... :-P
.........................
I'm currently busy with school so it's hard to make posts all the time, but I am active on the site and I update when I can - I don't like at-home updates as when I go new places and take them with me. I also like to host TV's for a longer period than a few weeks, so they can see more of Australia while visiting me... please take that into account when messaging me with a want for me to host your little one! :-)

Would you like to host any of my toyvoyagers?
Fred Lion visiting RockVixen07 in Texas. Harold Giraffe visiting anni in Germany. Hedgie visiting AbbyB in Canada.

As far as I can understand, your Flickr photos will always be there unless you delete them. If you let your free account lapse it will be closed and you won't have access to it (unless you PAY for a pro account) but your photos will remain. I could of course be wrong...but I seem to remember reading that.

I worry more about hackers! The thought of uploading all those hundreds of photos again.... :o

That's what I'm in fear about too.
That's right that the photos remain there until I delete them. But I mean, that they will disappear, if I have to quit the pro account, even if they are still there and will show up again, if I buy a new one.
I just mean, that you can't expect, that a member pays for a pro account for about 5, 10 or more years. If you don't pay for it, you will only see the first 200 photos, if I remember well.
Ok, maybe we never will have fun with this for such a long time, but you know, I'm a bit crazy and maybe will be also or more crazy, when I'm getting older and older.

Maybe I'm just a bit depressive during the last few weeks.

Hugs, Petra

I already read some travellogs with photos that do not appear any longer. That's a pity.

When I was here for only a few weeks I also tried those free photo accounts but I realized that their limits were reached too fast. Now some of my pictures of Moony and Angus are on flickr, picasa and pixum. I already have a flickr pro account and I think that those photos on picasa and pixum will stay there forever as long as I won't upload more. Of course I will have to pay for the flickr account. It costs about EUR 15,00 a year, only a little bit more than EUR 1,00 in a month. I think that I always will be able to afford it.

If I should ever get tired of ToyVoyagers I'm sure I would do anything else with photos, so I would still need my flickr account.

Petra, I have a picture in my mind: we both, about 75 years old, moving through town with a walking frame, the basket crammed with TVs, our cameras within reach and our flickr accounts filled with 50.000 photos. When we come home the first thing is switching on the computer ... no lunch, no dinner, UPDATES!

To be honest: I don't care now what will be in 10 years. Nobody here has a duty to be a member of ToyVoyagers for lifetime. If you want to be a member for lifetime it certainly will be great but nobody is bound to keep his photo account alive for all times even if he/she will not appear here any longer. We always leave traces in other people's lifes. So if our photos should not be available any longer in 10 years, it would be sad but reality. Even if the photos should disappear, the written text will stay as long as this site exists.
Even then new members will be able to read what a TV experienced when he visited your hometown or mine.

Of course I know that, but I just thought, that I maybe should share this thoughts. And of course I think, I maybe want to show this to my grandchildren too:)

No, to be true I had some depressive thoughts and that's maybe why I had to think about this too. Thanks for your answers, I really appreciate them and this may help me to take it easy again with flickr and everything I'm doing there. Not to imagine, if I would have to upload thousands of photos from my computer (I already had to do it for some tvs a while ago) - a thing, that also could happen within a years time, if something happened to one of these photo websites, you know. What I wrote about this long time (5, 10 and more years) wasn't that, what I really thought about at first.
